I love olives. They make a tasty snack that is also healthy. I love to eat olives in my meals to as you will have seen from some of my other recipes as they add flavour and texture to a meal.
Olives are much healthier than people realise. They are high in vitamin E, show a protective effect on the heart and are thought to help against osteoporosis and cancer.
Olives contain monounsaturated fats which help boost good cholesterol ‘HDL’ (High Density Lipoprotein) reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.
They may also be useful in weight loss as olive oil has been shown to help breakdown fats within fat cells and may reduce fat in the stomach area.
They also have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce pain.
They have many other positive effects on the body but I am sure you would rather see the recipe than have an in depth natural medicine lesson so here it is:
Green Queen Olives with Oregano, Sweet Pepper and Feta
1 sweet red pepper
1tsp dried oregano
1tbsp olive oil
Chop the red pepper and feta into bite sized pieces. Place in a bowl with the oregano and olive oil, stir well but gently.
Cover , place in the fridge and allow the flavours to infuse for about an hour before serving.
This is great as a healthy snack and also works well if you have friends over for drinks. Toothpicks can be used instead of forks.
Love the look of that ginger beer from Fentimans? You can win a case ‘here‘.
