Trying to manage your finances can be a struggle and sometimes, the numbers just don’t add up.  In many instances we may find we are overspending in places we may not have realised.  Sometimes this can be easily rectified simply by rethinking our budget and looking at where cutbacks can be made.

Still Falling Short?

If you find you are still struggling to make ends meet each month it may bean idea to look into other areas where you can boost your finances.  The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways that you can earn a little extra money on the side from the comfort of your own home.

Simple Ways To Boost Your Income

Sell Unwanted Items

A quick although short term solution especially if you’re hit with an exceptionally large bill one month and you’re struggling to find the cash to cover it.  Selling old items that are in good condition is a great option.  You can use the extra money to pay off those unexpected bills without having to resort to borrowing which may land you in financial trouble.  If you’re struggling to make ends meet every month because you aren’t earning enough then selling your used items isn’t the best solution.  You may need to start looking at more long-term solutions.  Or simply find a better paid job – easier said than done.

Start A Side Business

It’s easier than ever for people to start a small side business from home selling products online.  There are already some great platforms like eBay or Etsy where you can buy and sell things and setup is fairly easy.

Having said that, you can’t just set up a shop and wait for the money to start rolling in.  You still need to know how to run a business properly.  If you are thinking about starting your own side business, it’s advisable to do an online business management degree in your spare time.  I did a business course many years ago and it taught me the basics I needed to run a successful business.  Once the business is up and running it shouldn’t be long before you start earning provided you are running it well.

If you want to work from home but you don’t want to take on the responsibility of running an entire business then freelancing is always an option. There are all sorts of different freelance jobs you could consider.  An increasing number of businesses are taking on personal assistants that work from home to handle general admin and answering emails etc.  There are some great sites like Freelancer where you can bid for jobs.  The main benefit of doing freelance work is that you can take on work around your schedule.  It’s perfect to make a little extra money when you have the time.

Taxi Driving

Lyft and Uber have changed the way that taxi drivers operate so it’s easier than ever for you to do.  It doesn’t take that long to get certified as a driver and then you can start taking on work when it suits you.  You don’t have to become a full-time taxi driver, you can just work one or two days / nights a week to earn a bit of extra cash.

All of these are great ways to help us earn a little extra money and help boost our finances.

Can you think of any further ways to help create a regular boost to our incomes?

  1. These are great ideas, thank you. I am pretty useless with money so any help is gratefully received! Kaz

  2. Points well stated, Nice one ..could you please allow me write an article about ‘how to increase your income as a student’ on your site as a guest writer??

  3. So useful having the links for people to follow to get the help they need. I make crafts and sell them at craft fairs but it just earns me pocket money really.

  4. I’m a bit of an Eeyore, so never think I’d be any good at this sort of thing. My daughter is amazing though, makes £250 a week teaching dance. Not bad for a side hustle!

  5. Great post! I love selling stuff, I have exercise equipment I plan to sell in the New year!
I never thought about Taxi driving what a super idea! ha ha!
I remember last Christmas I drove Friends home from a party and we got stuck on a hill with all the snow! It’ s lucky I didn’t charge them for the lift hahaha! I was very stressed,

  6. I am too lazy to do much, I already work and do the school run. I do a TV survey now and again and use cashback sites though.
