(collaborative)The kitchen is for many one of the rooms used most often. Therefore, it makes sense to make sure when you refurbish or give it a makeover you do it properly where you can. Where possible it makes sense to redo the whole room. But, that isn’t always possible. Sometimes you can get away with making changes here and there for a fabulous new look. So what sort of simple kitchen makeover tips do I have to help? You’ll find ways in this post to help you make your kitchen one you enjoy using each day.

Kitchen Layout
What you do with your kitchen will be influenced by your budget first and foremost. We’re not all in the position to be knocking down walls and extending to create a larger kitchen space. For a more simple approach and one that’s not as much hassle work with what you have. Plan out the best way to use the space. Creating a few different designs can be a good idea and chose the one that best suits your needs. Consider a fitted kitchen like those at Hammonds that fits with the size and shape of yours and you’ll be well on your way to a stunning kitchen you’ll be proud of.
Appliances
If the existing appliances work well then consider keeping them for a while longer. Why change them if you don’t need too. I’ve seen many change theirs simply to upgrade. Unfortunately, this increases environmental waste if they are just scrapped instead of being rehomed. When looking to buy a new appliance it makes sense to buy the best you can. Look at energy efficiency and reviews to help guide you.
The Walls
Some like to tile the walls but it can be much simple to just paint them. Alternatively, wallpaper can also look good and you can choose an option that fits with your theme so simple and plain, textured, a splash of colour, something artistic, metallic, the choices are endless. Lighting
Lighting in a kitchen is vital. You will need to make sure there is enough light and where possible increase the amount of natural light too. I’ve often seen skylights added to help do this. A room that looks brighter tends to look larger and far more inviting.
Flooring
Sometimes you’ll find by simply updating the flooring you can create a more modern and fresher look to a kitchen. Look at using more neutral colours for your colour scheme. It’s important to use materials that give a more sophisticated look to your kitchen. Material options will vary depending on your budget. Tiles are popular as they are easy to clean, also consider vinyl as a cheaper alternative. Adding vinyl to a kitchen floor is much faster and can give a good finish for less. Although I must say, I do prefer tiles myself.

My kitchen is well overdue a makeover, I just don’t enjoy the room anymore as it is showing it’s age now
That’s such a shame but a makeover will really change the way you feel about the room. It can make so much of a difference.
We have just tiled our kitchen and it’s finally complete! We have been thinking about adding a kitchen island in though, but that might have to wait for now.
This post has come at the right time as I am currently looking to update my cupboards and the walls as well.
All our rooms could do with a little makeover but I am rubbish when it comes to any kind of diy 🙂
Some excellent ideas here, We are looking to redo out kitchen and do plan to change the flooring as well as repainting it. Luckily I have a huge window so get ample light in the kitchen
Completely agree with you about not changing appliances if you don’t have to. We use ours until they no longer work for financial and environmental benefits.
As we rent our home we like to keep it in good shape and paint the kitchen to help it looking pristine, we would love to change our lights as it shows a horrid blue light – perhaps we could change them ourselves and create a warmer feel to the room. Thanks for your tips!

We did ours before we moved it. So glad we did. The floor is very important and affects the look and feel of a room.

We had our kitchen done 10 years ago and never replaced the floor. I really wish we had it done as I hate my floor, it looks grubby all the time

I’ve actually been doing a kitchen makeover this weekend! Took down some cupboards, painted and put up shelves instead – small changes but looks so much better!

Exactly, it depends on what you already have to work with.
We are thinking about repainting our kitchen to freshen things up, we don’t want to spend a lot because we are actually saving to move when the house market improves

I really hate my tiny kitchen! They can definitely be redone on the cheap though, I had horrible cupboards but have painted them with cupboard paint (it has lasted 2 years so far) I also replaced the handles.

You don’t necessarily need a large kitchen. It is all about making the most of what you have.
I have actually updated my kitchen recently. We done lighting which is great and added a breakfast bar and units. I am regretting that we did not do the floor and that I did not insist on putting different unit doors on. Having seen gloss paint on a kitchen units now I would love that as they are so easy to wipe clean

With lockdown and decorating some rooms in my house it’s really made me look at my kitchen it looks so dark and dingy. I would love a way of lightening and brightening the area. Your post has made me think and our tiles are dark grey with dark brown units. I think lighter colours might freshen the room. I love the tiles in this photo!
Honestly being stuck indoors really makes us take a good look at where we live and think about what we’d like to change.
That flooring looks lovely! It’s amazing how you can makeover a kitchen so simply.
While saving to replace my ghastly old 1980s kitchen, there is always a dilemma over whether to spend something to update it a little or spend nothing and wait longer for a wonderful new kitchen. I do think, though, that good lighting always makes a huge difference.
Save up as much as you can and do it properly is the best option.
I’m just about to have all the cupboard doors changed in my kitchen, brings the price of a new kitchen down a bit, but it’s still costing me over £6000

It sure can. I do love tiled floors in the kitchen.
We put new doors on our old kitchen units to give it an updated look. We also added new accessories. We could really do with a complete new kitchen now.
That’s a great way to freshen up the look of your kitchen.
I definitely agree with new flooring and lighting and a new coat of paint or just cleaning the grout properly in the flooring helps it to look fresher and better.
