All too soon Father’s Day will arrive. This means that you’re probably already be thinking about how you can help your little ones to make Father’s Day special for their dad. For children, Father’s Day gives them a chance to make an effort to show their dad just how much he means to them, and just how much they appreciate all that he does for them. As your children get older, they will be able to plan things on their own to celebrate this kind of occasion, but while they’re young, the chances are that they might need a little help. With that in mind, I’ve put together a handy guide to how you can help kids make Father’s Day special for their dad.

Encourage Kids to Get Creative with Gifting
A big part of celebrations like Father’s Day is the gifts. Therefore, it’s a good idea to get this arranged first. The good news is that there are lots of Father’s Day gifts online for your little ones to choose from for their dad, as well as an array of cards available too. When choosing a gift and card, encourage your little ones to get creative and think outside of the box. A mug with ‘Dad’ written on it is all well and good, but is there something he might appreciate more?
A personalised mug with a photo of the kids could work much better. Encourage your little ones to think about what their dad enjoys doing. This way they can then think about potential related gifts. Does your dad enjoy playing golf, telling jokes, is he into trying different beers, would a new wallet be something he needs, does he get through socks like there is no tomorrow? A gift can be something that he needs. It can save him the trouble of having to buy the item and give him something useful too.
Help Your Child Surprise Dad
When it comes to the day itself, it’s great to have a surprise in their somewhere. Take the time to think about how you can help your little ones to surprise their dad. There are lots of easy (and fun) ways that you can do this. Making him breakfast in bed can be a nice treat, doing some of his chores can also be great. Dad might appreciate a little pampering. His favourite bath bomb and toiletries might go down a treat. He could have a nice soak in the bath after opening these gifts to let him have a relaxing start to the day. There are lots of little ways you can bring a surprise into the day. The key is to get a little creative with your approach.
Homemade gifts can be fun for little ones to do. Kids could look at making dad a card, baking him a cake. They could even help mum make some fudge which many dads seem to love.

For the day itself, aim to focus on quality time together as a family, rather than buying an expensive gift or a number of gifts. There are lots of fun and exciting ways that you can celebrate Father’s Day together, it’s simply a case of getting creative. Whether it’s a simple family day in the garden having a barbecue, splashing in the pool and playing games or it’s a day out somewhere exciting, what matters is that you get to spend quality time together as a family.

Spending time together can be the best gift sometimes.
I think it’s a great idea to get your kids to think creatively about gifts for their dad. Getting them to think about what he enjoys also encourages them to think about others’ needs.
That’s very true and it helps to teach them to think about others from early on.

I am not planning anything for Father’s Day this year. I’ve been divorced for 2 years from my sons dad so I don’t do anything special. I give my son the option to do something but he usually declines.
That’s a shame but then these things happen unfortunately.
I don’t have children (yet) but I love this post! I feel like memories definitely make better gifts than some expensive item 🙂

My son is only 1.5 but last year he “drew” a picture and I plan to have him do something like that this year too! He also sent his dad on a scavenger hunt 🙂

We always get creative for gifts at my house. I have my boys create their own cards for my husband. Then we decide together what to get him. Usually it’s something we make together. It’s more meaningful when it comes from the heart for sure.
