Up to the end of primary school many parents will be looking for gifts to give to teachers at the end of each year. In some cases, the class rep will look to collect donations towards teachers gifts and look for a specific item or items to give to teachers to show appreciation. Sometimes, the proceeds from donations or a gift voucher along side a card may be given. Alongside the class group donation, I normally gift something extra. The amount spent always depends on how much my children liked the teacher(s). Here we will look at end of year teacher gifts to help give you ideas of items that can work well and in some cases items that teachers have actually said they would really love to be gifted.

End of Year Teacher Gifts
Know Your Teacher
Before you buy a gift for a teacher, it helps to know a little more about them. The teacher(s) in question may have allergies, may not be able to use certain items for religious reasons, or, might simply not drink for example. If you think ahead and ask in advance, you will get an idea of what items may of may not be an option for gifting when the end of year approaches.
Personalised Pens
Teachers get through a large number of pens each school year. Personalised pens can make a lovely and useful gift. They are also a great way for a teacher to keep a track of their pens which can often go walk about. You could even choose to have the outer casing in their favourite colour and provide a pack of extra refills to keep them stocked all year.
Alcoholic / Non Alcoholic drinks
Alcohol can work well with some teachers, but not so well if the teacher you buy a bottle of wine for doesn’t drink. This particular option will need investigation before you make a purchase. If you discover your teacher doesn’t drink but still enjoys a good mocktail you can consider non alcoholic drink alternatives as a gifting option. If you have limited time and opt for a bottle of wine as an easy gift, it won’t go to waste as the recipient can still regift this. Don’t forget the beer, it makes a great gift for some and from what I’ve seen is normally very much appreciated by the school caretakers who some may also want to buy a gift for. Ours does love his beer!
Best Teacher Gifts
Although this might sound like a great gift option, a teacher that has been teaching for many years will most likely have a large box of gifts saying best teacher in the loft. A best teacher gift is an easy gift to buy, but not necessarily one that would be the most useful to the recipient. It might be better to have a think about what would suit them best if you want to gift something that the teacher would use or really appreciate.

Chocolates
A popular gift for teachers so something to consider when choosing what to buy. Chocolate is a popular gift. The options in stores and online is quite varied. Before gifting, it is important to check the teacher isn’t allergic to chocolate. If you want to gift something a little more special for a teacher that has really stood out, then consider chocolate that is a little pricier such as products from Hotel Chocolate or Holdsworth Chocolates. They have lovely items that make more of an impact.
Sweets
If you have a teacher with a sweet tooth then sweets can work exceptionally well. You could consider buying their favourite sweets if you know what they are. Pop these in a hamper or clear plastic wrap to make it look pretty. Alternatively, buy a ready made sweet hamper to give as a gift. These can go down very well and make a fun treat that will be much appreciated.
Flowers
Flowers can be a lovely gift for a teacher and is also a favourite go to for many. If you are looking to gift something different, you may want to consider having a bunch put together by a florist or you could make your own arrangement with a mix of flowers from a supermarket or even better, from a garden centre. You can create a beautiful arrangement that will not only impress but will also stand out as a gift.
Photo Frames
A photo frame can make a nice gift option especially for a newer teacher. Seasoned teachers tend to have loads of photo frames including ones full of images of some of their previous students. Something to consider when choosing this particular gift option.
Mugs
Depending on the teacher, this could be a great gift but most teachers will be gifted so many mugs over the course of their career that they’ll generally just add them to the collection in the staff room. It might be best to consider something else unless it is a teacher new to the profession or one that loves to collect mugs or a particular type of mug.

A Handmade Card
Sometimes the best gifts are handmade gifts. A card created by a child with a handwritten message can be a lovely keepsake for a teacher. These cost very little and the only expense is the cost of the materials required to make the card. It can be a lovely sentimental gift that a teacher may end up keeping for years as a treasured memory.
A Personalised Book
This is a great idea for a class gift and one class reps might want to consider. Books can be made with an image and special message from each of the children in the class. It makes a lovely keepsake to remember all the children they taught over a particular year.
Cuff Links
Cufflinks are a lovely gift to thank a male teacher that has really excelled and inspired your child over the course of the year. There are a range of options. You could select something they could wear on special occasions or something a bit more casual. It helps to know a teacher and their interests as this will help guide you in making your selection.
Jewellery
A nice piece of jewellery can be very much appreciated. You’ve got plenty of months over the year to see they type of jewellery your child’s teacher wears to get an idea of what sort of item might work best. If in doubt, a gift voucher for a jewellery store or site could also be an option.

A Gift Voucher
Gift vouchers that can be used online or in local shops can be a great option to consider when looking for a gift. Vouchers allow the teacher to buy an item of their own choosing from options available. Consider Amazon vouchers, experience vouchers, restaurant vouchers, M&S, John Lewis, or any other gift vouchers that you may feel suitable.
Coffee Voucher
Whether it’s for a local coffee shop or one of the chains like Starbucks or Costa, a coffee gift card may be just the right gift for your teacher. Naturally, it helps to make sure they do drink coffee before purchasing the card. It can be a lovely and very much appreciated gift option.
A Nice Tie
A practical gift idea for the male teachers. There are many options when it comes to ties. Certain teachers will make full use of a lovely silk tie and wear it often when working. There are always plenty of great design options to choose from although you can always buy a gift voucher for a site that sells ties so that the teacher can choose what they’d prefer most.
Homemade Food Stuff
According to one teacher I spoke with during my research, some of the best gifts they’ve received are homemade foods. For foodie teachers with a sweet tooth consider homemade brownies, a cake, loaf cake, etc. They can be very much appreciated.
Conclusion
As you can see there are plenty of great items that you can consider gifting teachers at the end of this year. The options chosen will of course be influenced by how much you like the teacher, how well you know them and how much effort you are willing to put into giving them a gift they would enjoy or appreciate most.
