Science Mad Chemistry Lab

Kids of all ages love science.  I remember enjoying science lessons at school and then university many years ago.  It’s great fun watching chemical reactions occurring in front of you and learning why they happen.  I even remember learning about static electricity and watching my teacher’s comb-over slowly rising and how the class was in fits of laughter.
It’s also become far more fashionable to be smart these days and learning can be made fun with the right tools.  We’ve been enjoying all sorts of fun STEM projects for many years at home and outside.  There aren’t that many science kits on the market that would normally appeal but this one sounded great so naturally, we jumped at the chance to review it.

Science Mad Chemistry Lab

The Science Mad Chemistry Lab by Trends UK is for children ages 10 and over. In the box, you will find everything necessary to allow you to perform over 80 safety-tested, themed experiments.  The laboratory is well equipped providing almost everything required for the experiments.  It includes a real methylated spirit burner to help when learning about some fascinating chemical reactions that involve heat.

What’s in the Box?

10 chemicals
A range of apparatus including:
Glass spirit burner
Safety glasses
A glass beaker
1 conical flask
Glass stirring rod
and much more
There is also a detailed instruction manual with a range of fun experiments.

It’s quite impressive how much is included to allow children to perform a wide range of experiments.

Additional Items Required

Methylated spirit
Colourless distilled malt vinegar
Citric acid powder
Salt
Bicarbonate of soda
Hydrogen peroxide
Tumeric

What Did We Think?

This was an instant hit.  Both daughters thought the science kit was really good fun.  They enjoyed getting to use a spirit burner.

The experiments are clearly planned and set out within a detailed instruction manual.

The girls took it in turns to help with the experiments and found it not just fun but also interesting.  There are loads of experiments that increase in complexity as you work your way through.  This does require adult supervision but then science is fun so I did enjoy being involved. It is also a nice way to spend time with the children away from ipads and tv screens.  The tubs were not as fully as expected with the various chemicals although luckily we discovered a little goes a long way.

Where to Buy:

The RRP for the Science Mad Chemistry Lab is £29.99.  It is available from Smyths, Very, Littlewoods and Amazon.
