Now up to 42 cm from crown to toe my little man is growing well. He is about the size of a Mexican yam / turnip. As he builds up his fat reserves his skin is now becoming smooth and soft. Many babies sleep for a large proportion of the day and will be more active at night, all that is except my little Squishy, or so it seems. He appears to be oblivious to the fact that he is supposed to be asleep more than awake and it feels as if he is moving more than sleeping. Judging from my other two children and Squishy’s activity levels it looks like I’m not going to be getting much rest between feeds when he is born. He is now inhaling amniotic fluid as he practises his breathing for when he is born. Hair may also have formed on Squishy’s head. Some babies are born with a full head of hair where as others are born with very little.
My belly button is now sticking out thanks to the increased size of my tummy. Urinating at night can be a total nightmare as it can be difficult to get out of bed for a start and then of course get to the bathroom. My bump appears to have moved down a bit already and as a result can get in the way when I do anything sitting down. At my last midwife appointment I was told he was back to back (his spine was against mine) and having already squeezed out a baby back to back with no pain relief I am not planning on reliving the experience so where possible I am now leaning forward to try and get him used to being the other way around. I have my final scan this week and after toying with the idea of cancelling it as it can be very painful during the scan and also my back hurts after as they seem to be very heavy handed I have decided to go ahead with it as it will give them an idea of Squishy’s size. I would rather know if he is going to be a big boy!
