What is a Signature Perfume?
Quite often you’ll find that a perfume you smell when out and about reminds you of a particular relative, friend, or acquaintance. It may be one that that person wears most often or for specific occasions and one that will always make others think specifically of them. It’s almost like them having their own personal scent.
A signature perfume can work in various ways. Not only is it a fragrance you love and wear often or even daily, but it can also be a fragrance that helps boost your confidence and make you feel better about yourself. It’s like people that won’t leave the house without mascara or lipstick. It gives them the confidence to get out there and take on the outside world.
Do Perfumes Smell the Same on Everyone?
The simple answer to this is no. There are a number of factors that can affect the scent of a perfume including your skin type. Normal skin normally allows fragrances to smell the same as the fragrance given when sprayed onto a paper strip. But those with dry or oily skin will find the fragrance differs. Your diet could also affect the perceived smell as can hormonal fluctuations. That is why it is important to try out perfumes before buying them so you don’t end up with bottles of perfumes you don’t like when applied to your skin.
Another important thing to note is that the fragrance may change over the course of the day as the fragrance develops. The aroma may differ considerably at the end of the day from when it was applied as the various ingredients evaporate.

How to Choose a Signature Perfume
When choosing your signature fragrance you’ll need to try a few different options. How you want the fragrance to make you feel. Do you want a perfume that makes you feel calm or something that’ll make you feel energised? How about one that’s a little more playful and sensual?
You’ll also need to test a range of fragrances on the sample strip. If it smells like something you might like try it on your skin. Quite often you’ll be able to get hold of a sample from a department store and now many online stores are doing sample sizes too. Samples will allow you to test the fragrance for a few days to get a feel for it and see if it suits your skin, personality etc.
You might find that the ones that you gravitate towards have something in common. They might all be fresh, or floral, woody, earthy or even oriental. If there is a particular one you have a preference for and it suits your skin you can then try different perfumes with similar notes to see which suit you best.
You can have more than one signature fragrance so get out there, get testing fragrances and strengths and find one or a few that you can use that suits your personality or specific occasions.

I love anything with a floral scent. I feel like I smell like spring.
These are good ideas for finding that certain scent that will define a person. I have not been so discerning with my perfume but I need to find the perfume that is just right for me.
Oooo I think my signature is florals. But then again, I tend to like most sweet scents. I love when I can sample them out in the store.

I love perfumes, and always forget what someone is wearing if I ask what they are wearing, I now pay a monthly subscription where I can choose perfumes to try and so far am loving them all x

I like to use different perfumes. I have also found that as my body changes (like when I was pregnant) the perfume I used to wear no longer smelled nice on me.

My grandmother had a signature perfume, White Shoulders. I know several people who are allergic/highly sensitive to fragrances, so I don’t wear one.
i like wearing different scents as I’m a bit of a perfume hoarder. but I do change with the seasons
I don’t really use perfume only because it can cause me to get migraines. I do however love certain scents and some I can be around. The fruity type are my favorite.

I think it can be an individual thing. Not everyone wears it, as as not everyone wears eye liner or mascara daily x
I never realized that perfumes smell differently on people. I really do not have a Signature Perfume.
I used to wear Romance, DKNY green Apple, and now I’m into Versace Bright Crystal.

I love so many perfumes but the One by D&G will forever be my signature favorite. I think it’s important to have a signature scent…perfume can really just change the whole mood for the day and makes you feel a little extra even when you’re not feeling your best.
I don’t wear perfume, but love creating potions with essential oils. Cedarwood, lavender, geranium are some of my faves! You’ve just inspired me to put some on!!
I have to admit that I just have a huge amount of perfumes and I decide what I want to wear during the day. Anything with rose in is a no go for me (although I love rose candles etc) once it’s on my skin it smells awful, but smells amazing on friends and family.

Some fragrances take me back to my youth like Exclamation and Charlie Red haha. I used to wear them all the time. It’s crazy how a perfume can evoke a memory. I love all the Armani perfumes, they all smell amazing.
