Best Ways To Cope With Emotional Changes During Menopause
Menopause brings about many changes. As the body stops releasing eggs and your estrogen production slows down, it’s natural to feel some emotional consequences in addition to
the obvious physical changes that are occurring. This is one of the first signs of menopause. Coping with these changes can be difficult if you don’t know what to expect or
how to prepare. Countless women before you have endured this hardship and persevered, and you can, too. You simply need to invest in your physical and emotional wellness. Find out
how you can minimize the emotional fallout of menopause and retain your well-being.
Understand What’s Causing Your Symptoms
In order to address the emotional dysregulation that often occurs during menopause, you should first understand the underlying causes that contribute to the problem. The hormonal fluctuations
that precede menopause are liable to exacerbate existing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, but even for women who have never had these problems, they may
suddenly appear as menopause approaches. This is due to the hormonal shift that triggers menopause. Women’s natural levels of estrogen and progesterone will start to drop off at the onset of menopause, which in turn, can trigger massive mood swings and depressive episodes.
Another potential cause of emotional dysregulation is the loss of sleep that often occurs during menopause. This is most common during the period called perimenopause, the time when you
are transitioning into menopause. Hot flashes are most common in this stage. These can cause insomnia which has been repeatedly linked to depression and emotional afflictions. If
you’ve never had a hot flash, you might wonder what a hot flash feels like. Hot flashes are characterized by a sudden, uncomfortably warm feeling that typically affects the chest, neck, and
face. If it is particularly intense, the skin may redden, and the sufferer may start sweating.

Take Care of Your Whole Health
Although you cannot avoid menopause, you can certainly take steps to mitigate its impact on your emotions. If hot flash-induced insomnia is part of the problem, you can invest in a supplement to
help. Research side-effects of products you consider to ensure that you choose a supplement that’s suited to your needs. Similarly, if you are dealing with mental health struggles that have worsened since menopause began, you may benefit from seeking therapy or psychiatric care from a professional.
Ultimately, you must remember to care for yourself as a whole (wholistically) rather than just treating a set of symptoms. Your body and your mind are inextricably linked, and one cannot thrive if the other suffers. Your emotions may feel like a rollercoaster, but there are tools you can use to regulate these. Investing in self-care will help you reclaim your wellness and regain a sense of stability even as you enter a new phase of life. Find a treatment that offers natural and effective support for the most common side effects of menopause.
Exercise
Such treatments can include exercise. This has been shown to help give some relief from hot flashes. In fact, regular exercise can significantly reduce postmenopausal symptoms. Exercises to consider include brisk walking, jogging, cycling, and swimming.
Find ways to relax/keep yourself calm
Consider yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises. These will help you control your emotions and remain in a much calmer state during the ups and downs of menopause.
Healthy Eating
Your diet can influence the severity of some symptoms. So for example, eating hot spicy foods isn’t going to help you with your hot flashes. These may make you feel stressed/depressed etc. But, eating a whole food diet with a wide range of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, alongside lean red meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, salmon, tuna, whitefish etc. can be beneficial. Watch the fats you eat. With these, you need to be minimalistic although fatty fish and nuts are essential. Avoid fried foods as much as possible.
A study in 2013 showed that women that menopausal women that ate a Mediterranean diet rich in fruit and veg were approx 20% less likely to have hot flashes and night sweats. So following a diet, loosely outlined above will greatly assist.
There are certain foods that are classed as cooling foods in Chinese herbal medicine. These include; green tea, apples, pears, bananas, spinach, Romaine lettuce, kale, broccoli, asparagus, and eggs. These can be helpful to reduce hot flashes.
Fluids
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. This is needed to help you absorb nutrients, keep you hydrated, flush out toxins, keep your weight in check and help keep you cool.
Alcohol is fine in moderation, but, once you get to more than one drink a day it can affect your ability to sleep and also make hot flashes worse. It can also exacerbate anxiety or depression so make sure you keep alcohol consumption to a minimum. Don’t forget it can also result in weight gain when taken in excessive amounts.
Nurture supporting friendships
They can get you through so much from the stresses of daily life, divorce, and menopause etc.
