gifted. It’s not always easy to get children outside, the lure of computers, tv’s and games is often far too strong. I’ve been looking at ways to get my children outside more. The fresh air does them good, they top up on vitamin D and also get some exercise which has dual benefits of helping them stay healthy and also tires them out for bedtime. Many parents want their children to do more activities just like they used to when they were children, from running around, scooting, climbing trees, cycling and jumping in muddy puddles. Scooting As A Form Of Exercise
My son has been begging us to let him get a scooter to scoot to school. Well, finally his wishes were answered. Skates.co.uk kindly sent us a fantastic scooter to try out. And boy has this scooter been put through its paces. Scooting is a fun way to incorporate exercise into an adult and child’s daily routine. For the parents like me that don’t suppress their inner child, these guys have some great adult scooters too. Not only does scooting allow you to get a great aerobic workout it is also beneficial for mental health. The freedom you feel, scooting along especially with calming natural surroundings can help clear the mind, ease stress, depression and reduce anxiety.
Scooting is ideal for working the lower body muscles and core. You can also burn up to 200 calories within half an hour depending on how you scoot. It also builds up endurance and works well for any age and once you’ve got a pair of trainers and a scooter there is no further cost.
Scooting For Mental Health
We all know the body and mind are intertwined. Working to improve one will ultimately yield benefits for the other. Exercise is great for mental health. It releases endorphins known as happy hormones and also improves the oxygen flow around the body including to the head allowing for clearer and more positive thought and an elevated mood. We can also find it allows us an escape whilst we scoot along especially if we surround ourselves with nature.

Having tried out the scooter we discovered how fantastic it was and how much better it was in comparison to ones we have bought in the past and used at friend’s houses. But why are we so excited about this scooter? Well, grab a tea/coffee and take two minutes out of your schedule to find out.
Lightweight & Ease of Use
I have never lifted a scooter that’s as light as this. Seriously, this scooter is surprisingly light. Plus, it’s super easy to use. The scooter can be opened up by a flick of a switch as it were for use and when you are finished closed again for easy storage. It also extends to adjust to the child’s height. If you’ve dropped off your little one at school and are walking home with the scooter you can either carry it as it is or use the handy strap that comes with it to carry it over your shoulder. Just as important is the multi-mount clip. This holds the handle bars firmly in place when not in use and being carried.
The scooter has a brake for easy slowing and stopping. The handle turns easily allowing it to be steered around uneven pavement, bird poo, doggy poo and any other unsavoury obstacles they may encounter. The scooter has an extra safe folding mechanism so even little ones can fold it once they get the nack without worrying about squishing their fingers.
The handle bar has soft foam grips making it comfortable to hold. There is also a large grip tape on the footplate to ensure that children won’t slip and hurt themselves.
Durable
The scooter has been used quite often in the last few weeks by my son and his sisters and it’s still going strong. It is pretty solid even though it is lightweight and no matter how many bashes it’s sustained it hasn’t been dented or broken.
Varied Age Range Suitability
On the Skates.co.uk website, it says the scooter is suitable for ages 6-16+. Naturally, this will be dependent on the child’s height. My eldest who is almost 13 is able to use the scooter with ease at the moment when it is extended.

What Did We Think?
We loved that this comes in so many colour options. The scooter is strong and sturdy enough to survive a heavy handed 6 year old and his older sisters. I love that it’s light so I can carry it back easily after dropping my son off at school. The strap is handy and makes carrying easy although it’s also so light it can easily be carried without the strap if you forget it at home. The folding mechanism is are simple to use so I can open it up or fold it up fast. Always good when you’re children take ages in the morning to get ready for school no matter what time you wake them. The scooter is the best we’ve encountered so far from the ones we’ve had and those we’ve tried at friend’s houses.

We love scooters and find that they offer more flexibility than a bike. We tend to keep our boys scooters in the boot of our car so when we are going further afield they can use them.
They are so much easier to take on the school run than a bike. This one folds so takes up very little space.

I think you’re right about getting kids outside to play. Technology sometimes feels like it’s taking over and days are just spent staring at screens (whether it be zoom classes, work or playing video games etc). It’s nice to get back to some of the more simple, energetic activities and being out in the fresh air is so invigorating.

That’s a really good extension on the handle and I like the fact that it has a brake, so many scooters don’t.
I noticed not all scooters have brakes. This one seems to have everything you could need.

The folding feature caught my eye, very handy for bus trips and in the car, gets the kids off the screens and out into the fresh air, fab….

I really liked the title of one of the paragraphs in this post “Scooting for mental health” I think it sounds fun and scooting as a family in nature sounds lovely. Always making sure your scooting doesn’t upset or disturb walkers and others using the pathways. As the person going faster it does not mean you have priority, slow down or even get off and walk past walkers, dogs, horses etc. so that everyone enjoys the great outdoors together.
We tend to find places that are quiet as it’s much more fun for the kids and we don’t need to worry too much about getting in other people’s way either. It adds to the enjoyment that way.
