Liverpool is a much loved tourist destination and draws in visitors from abroad and from around the UK each year. There are many different reasons that people go visit Liverpool from it’s rich history, and famous landmarks, architectural gems, museums, galleries, beautiful cathedrals and diverse selection of cuisines. Top Things to Do in Liverpool
Royal Albert Dock
Royal Albert Docks, named after Prince Albert, was a key historic location that helped the city grow. This opened in 1846, and was the first structure that didn’t have any structural wood. Instead it was built using iron, brick and stone. Due to the docks success, additional docks were added to keep up with the high trade demand at the time. Liverpool accounted for 9% of worldwide trade passing through its docks in the 19th centaury. Many visitors love to go and see the Royal Albert Dock and take in the views. This popular location is a lovely place to walk around. There you will discover the docks of course as well as a range of other attractions. These including the Tate Liverpool Museum, The Maritime Museum, as well as a number of retail and leisure facilities, and restaurants.
The Beatles Story Museum
A big draw for anyone visiting the area is The Beatles Story Museum located on the stunning waterfront of the docks. It takes between one and three hours to get around the attraction. At the museum, you will walk through the different stages of the Beatles lives and music. There are immersive recreations of important locations from various times of their career. Visitors will also get to see original authentic memorabilia. There is also a gift shop selling one of the largest collections of Beatles merchandise and souvenirs. Items available include T-shirts, CD’s, books, limited edition merchandise and more.
The Port of Liverpool Building
The Port of Liverpool Building is an impressive Grade 2 listed Edwardian Baroque style building. This impressive building spans 165000 square feet. It consists of a number of different offices used mainly by commercial lawyers and wealth management types. The building is the oldest of the Three Graces alongside The Royal Liver Building and The Cunard Building. The three buildings situated on Liverpool’s pier head are said to be one of the most beautiful skylines in the world. The Port of Liverpool building is one of the most iconic buildings in Liverpool and one of the most impressive buildings in the Northwest. You can enter the building for free.
Liverpool Cathedral
The Cathedral was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and completed in 1978. This is Britain’s largest cathedral and the fifth largest in the world. As well as being a place of worship, the cathedral also features a range of amazing artwork. Here you’ll discover statues, paintings and sculptures. The also host art installations each year. This Cathedral also hosts music events so it’s worth checking their site for upcoming events when visiting the area. It’s free to visit the Cathedral. Many visitors will walk the stars up the 110m high tower so enjoy the beautiful 360 degree views of the city.
World Museum
This is a great location for a family day out. The World Museum is the oldest in Liverpool and entry is free although special exhibits and events have an additional fee. At the museum you will find an aquarium. This has large tanks with a range of species and immersive projections. Visitors can get close to starfish, hermit crabs and more. Through the viewing bubbles, you’ll see terrapins that have been rescued whizzing around in the water. You’ll also see much love favourites such as rays, skates, clown fish (Nemo), sharks, colourful tropical fish, and more.
The Ancient Egypt gallery within the museum has 5000 visitors a year who come to see some of the UK’s most significant collections of Egyptian items. Visitors will learn about the myths, mysteries and rituals of the Egyptian afterlife in The Mummy Room.
Here you’ll also discover the Clore Natural History Centre, Planetarium and more. The World Museum has plenty to keep the whole family interested. Who knows, you might learn a thing or two whilst there too.
Quirky Quarter
You will find a variety of interactive experiences where you will pit your wits against challenging experiences and puzzles that will test your mental dexterity and are also fun to do. You’ll also come across a selection of bizarre photo opportunities. This will give you a great selection of fun and different photos for you and those with you to treasure and remember the experience. This attraction is fun for all the family although some minor exhibits may be an issue for smaller children. This is a popular place to visit and has had great reviews from everyone that has been.

I’ve not visited Liverpool. It sounds like there are some great places to go and see there. I do like the sound of the World Museum. It sounds like there is a lot to see there. My kids would love it.
That is a great option when considering where to visit in Liverpool. I’m sure you’ll find plenty there that will keep the whole family entertained.
I love the Beetles so the museum is perfect for me. I hope to visit this summer. I have a list of places to see when I go and the world museum is on it too as well as the cathedral.

I visited Liverpool many years ago and had a really fun time. My favorite was visiting the Beatles Museum and walking by the Mersey River. I never saw the Quirky Quarter but it sounds interesting! It’s a city I would revisit again one day.
