Collaborative post. For many animal lovers, their non-human family members are more loyal than people and, in some instances, they even smell better! All of which makes it extremely worrying when they are not well. You’ll know exactly what I mean if you’ve ever had a poorly parrot, sick snake, peaky pony, or indisposed bearded dragon. Whether your pet is at its peak while running through the woods, tweeting on a perch or lounging in a heated tank, when they’re out of sorts, it disrupts the ambiance of the entire household. Therefore, if you want to prioritise their wellness, you’ll love these five important pet health tips.
Five Important Pet Health Tips
Teeth
Pet oral health is important, and cavities and gum disease can cause animals as many problems as they do for their human parents. These problems are particularly prevalent in cats, but Pets at Home has a fabulous range of feline dental products to provide peace of mind. These including oral care daily treats, plaque granules, water additives and brushes. They help clean teeth to help prevent problems from arising.
Worms
When dogs and cats suffer from tapeworm and roundworm, it can cause extreme discomfort. In fact, in extreme cases, worms can cause nutrient deficiencies or life-threatening intestinal blockages. But if you worm pets regularly, these issues can be prevented. Ask your vet about worming tablets and other treatments.
Allergies
If you’re a seasonal hay fever sufferer, you’ll know how miserable it can make you. But various types of allergies often affect dogs, cats, and horses too and they can be seriously debilitating. The good news is that animal allergies can be treated efficiently with specialist products. Your vet will be able to give you advice on brands like Avacta Animal Health, which is an expert provider in the allergy field.
Coats
The condition of a canine’s skin and coat are excellent indicators of its overall health. A healthy dog’s coat should be smooth and shiny and its skin clear and supple, with no bumps or oily discharge. Certain dog breeds with long and luscious coats can also benefit from regular professional grooming. These dogs include Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies, whereas other short-haired varieties can be shampooed and styled at home.
Beaks
If you’re keeping a parrot, it’s important to be aware that a healthy beak is absolutely essential. Here are some basic tips that can keep your feathered friend’s beak in top condition and stop it growing too long. Proper nutrition through a healthy diet really helps. Make sure you provide them with plenty of chew toys. Cuttle bones help to polish and keep beaks from overgrowth and as a result, are very popular. They contain calcium and so are beneficial as most bird’s diets are low in this.
These five fantastic pet care tips are merely the tip of the iceberg but hopefully, they’re helpful. No matter how much we care about our pets, we often need assistance in caring for them in the best way possible.
Have fun implementing whichever of these titbits are relevant for your animals and you’ll share many happy and healthy memories together.

I need to keep these in mind. We have two cats and two guinea pigs. One of my cats does have allergies!
Poor little thing. I hope they’re not too serious!
These are some great tips – I think as well it is always worth getting your pet checked at the vets no matter their size, if you think something is wrong. Don’t just let them carry on, worrying that you are wasting the vets time.
It is important for them to have check ups. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
This is a great reminder about their teeth for me. I often forget about that for my cat. My older son has really started taking care of her lately so I’ll have to teach him how to brush her teeth.
It helps to get the kids involved. They also learn to be more responsible.
Some fab tips, it’s amazing how many people forget animals need their teeth cleaned too… chews alone won’t help. Good to clean their ears very carefully too every so often with specialist solution and cotton pads – don’t use ear buds!!! Don’t forget lots of cuddles afterwards too 🙂 Sim x
Yes the ears also need cleaning especially with dogs.
Who would have thought that pets could have allergies? This is new information to me
I know, you learn something new every day x
I really enjoyed reading this post, these are really helpful tips.
Thanks for visiting Tasheena. I’m glad you liked the post.
I don’t have any sort of pets right now but this is great to read. Thanks for the knowledge.
It does help to be aware before getting pets.
These are great tips, we have two dogs that certainly keep us busy, but keeping them fit and healthy gives so many rewards even with my elderly dog who is going through a puppy stage again at the moment
They sound great!!! I’d love to get a dog. Hoping to when we next move. Fingers crossed x
Great tips for pet owners. I have 2 dogs!
Thanks Renee. I bet they are lovely. Dogs make amazing pets.
These really are important ones too. You have to be careful when it comes to pets. I’m pretty sure one of my cats gets allergies this time of year too.
So many people don’t realise pets can have allergies.
This is a nice copy especially for the ones with pets and how to take care of them. My boys love to take care of cats but their papa would want a dog. Maybe, we will get one when we get a big yard.
Same here. We’d love a dog but only once we have room for one.
I found out quite quickly about cat worming, I had to give our kittens their first treatment a week or so ago x
I bet they’re gorgeous!!!
I never checked my cat’s teeth, i had no idea that I should!!! I am checking his now…THANK YOU SO MUCH…
Hopefully they’ll be fine Chad x
I agree, these are important to keep an eye on, just like with people, actually. So many people tend to be neglecting over basic stuff
I agree, many people do neglect the basics for themselves which becomes apparent most often.
This sure is important! Thank you for all these tips. I am pretty new to taking care of pets so I find this helpful.
We do want our little friends to be healthy and happy.
Such great tips. One that I think is often forgotten is the oral care. It’s important that animals are healthy all over. Great post.
Oral care is a biggie. Issues can be very painful for your pets and costly too.
I’m going to own a dog pet soon and these will be helpful. Thank you for sharing them!
That’s great, congratulations. I bet you’ll love having a dog they are fun pets.
Our old gal is overdue for a checkup. It’s been awhile! She had a vet check just before the pandemic hit and it’s been crazy trying to get an appointment since it hit.
It is crazy to get appointments for vets isn’t it. Almost as bad as getting a doctor’s appointment for us.
We deworm every 6 months! We don’t take our dog to the vet regularly but we all do check him out to make sure everything is ok.
It’s important to check them yourself regularly. Cats and dogs need to be dewormed regularly but vets will advise on this.
These are fabulous tips for new owners of pets. Having regular visits to the Vets is so important to identify these issues and solve it soon as it happens
It does help to identify and address any health issues before they become worse and harder to treat.
These are important info and thanks a lot for sharing with us. Sometimes we may oversee pet’s health and we will have to observe and check regularly.
We don’t always look to check the most obvious things, especially if having a specific type of pet is new to us.
I haven’t had a pet in a few years now and I miss that. Thanks for sharing these tips.
I hope you get to have a pet soon Tammy.
These tips are helpful for pet parents like me. Thank you for reminding us that pet oral health is important.
It is important but often forgotten. Having it as part of a routine will help you remember.
My daughters pay a lot of attention to our dogs. They clean their teeth often and watch out for changes in their coat and if sheddings off. I’ll share these with them also. Thanks for sharing!
That’s great to hear. Sounds like they love having them as pets.
Keeping our pets healthy will help to prolong their life and the joy they are giving to us. It is like having a human kid – we must be responsible parents.
They can be very much like children especially dogs.
I did not know that a dog’s hair is so meaningful when it comes to their health!
There are so many things we simply wouldn’t know until we have pets for ourselves which highlights why everyone should do research before getting a pet.
I totally agree with that first statement. Lol. I never had a per, but this is for sure helpful for those who have! Maybe one of these days I’ll get a cat. Haha
It can be great for our mental health to have a pet.
These are some really great tips for all the pet owners out there. We want to get one but not sure what yet.
It can depend on where you live what sort of pets you can get.
These are all great tips! I have a rescue pup (chihuahua) that is 15 or more years old… we are not 100% sure on his age but when we got him his teeth were bad and he has no teeth now… even a part of his jaw came out but we rescued him and give him lots of love… homemade food…. chicken and rice … bone broth…..to keep him healthy full and happy. The dental care is so important for our pets as it can effect the entire body but we are lucky and he is super healthy minus his teeth 😉
Poor little thing, it sounds like he wasn’t cared for well before he came to stay with you.
These are fantastic tips. There are so many things to consider when it comes to your pet and looking after its health.
There sure are. It’s a shame not everyone takes care of pets as well as they should.
