Choosing to Travel with Others or Travel Alone

(Collaborative) Sometimes, the thing that you want most in the world is just to simply travel around certain areas of the globe. It could be within your country or abroad but either way, a holiday can be lovely. You might want to go it alone or share that experience with another person or people. But, how do you decide which will work best?  In this post, I’ll look at some of the considerations that may influence whether you will be Choosing to travel with others or travel alone.

Choosing to Travel with Others or Travel Alone

Solo Travel

Going on an adventure on your own gives you the freedom to plan and execute your trip the way you want to. Chose your destination, the hotels, hostels, etc that you might decide to stay at. You can select the trips you would enjoy most without having to worry about whether others would enjoy it and if it is suitable for their age or abilities. No need to worry about others complaining their feet hurt or they’re hungry or need the toilet. A solo trip can be a little scary if it’s your first time but it can also be really exciting.

So how easy is it to solo travel? Well, the hardest part is probably deciding where you want to go, what type of accommodation you’ll prefer and additional things you want to do once you are there. Of course, you’ll need to have saved up adequate funds for this as well as an emergency fund in case you miscalculated or decide to stay longer. Once you’ve passed that hurdle you’ll need to look into any visa requirements. You might find once you go you like your destination so much that you want to speak with immigration lawyers about requirements to move there.

Travelling With Others

Travelling with others is not only far safer but it can also be much more fun. A shared experience can really bond you and your partner or friends. Obviously, when doing this you’ll have to take others opinions and requirements into consideration. You may not all have the same budget so will need to compromise and options for activities and trips once there may also differ. Food choices, dietary requirements will also influence choices made. It helps to go with a person or people you have similar tastes to so you can get to do activities you are all guaranteed to enjoy. These sorts of experiences can help forge lifelong friendships and possibly further fun adventures.

Family Adventures

We enjoy going on family adventures. We have a growing list of travel destinations we have visited and others places we would love to explore. Personally, I enjoy travelling with my brood and have rarely been anywhere without them. Of course, this means and number of opinions need to be taken into consideration but then we mostly enjoy doing the same things which helps. Obviously, where we can go has more limits when travelling with children but then I’m not particularly adventurous and my husband is even less adventurous than me so it all seems to work well.

While I think traveling alone is not a bad idea, I think I’d prefer to travel with others especially if it’s a new place.

    1. admin

I think it could be fun, but I’d rather have company.

  2. Amber Myers

I usually travel with someone, but traveling alone sounds amazing. To be able to do what you want, when you want? Amazing. One day I will do it!

    1. admin

It would be nice to choose to do things I’d like to for a change. But, I do love having the family there too.

  3. Jennifer Villanueva

I haven’t travelled alone for quite some time now, 8yrs to be exact… since i became a mother. But i don’t mind at all, i’ve had my fair share of solo trips and have enjoyed them, now it may be a lot different and harder but yes it is more fun.

    1. admin

It is very different travelling on your own to travelling with family.

I have to admit I have travelled around the U.K. on my own in the distant past not sure I would do it again now. However I did enjoy it at the time.

I’m a bit of a weirdo when it comes to travel. For the better part of my life, I traveled alone. It was enjoyable to me if not efficient. I was able to move at my own speed and do what I wanted to do. However, I do enjoy traveling with my wife. It provides me with the opportunity to visit all of the romantic places I read about and it strengthens the closeness of the relationship. Last but certainly not least: family travel. I have a son and very few things bring me more joy than seeing him enjoy the places we take him. In essence, I love all 3 forms of travel.

    1. admin

It’s great to be able to do what you want when you want but as we are sociable creatures nothing beats having others to share these experiences with.

I would like to travel with others but with minimal participants only, I am not fond of travelling with a bigger group

    1. admin

Big groups can be more difficult. Although you don’t need to do everything together.

  13. Bethan Taylor-Swaine

It’s been a moment since I travelled alone (or travelled at all to be honest, but I do enjoy it. There’s something really special about taking time out for yourself and enjoying your own company.

    1. admin

I think it can be nice to have time just for you. Not sure I’d manage a trip on my own though.

  14. Monica

I think there are times I would want to take each option, although in most cases I would travel with my family as I would miss them too much if I dont. I really like your insight on this. Cheers

    1. admin

Travelling with strangers is different and can also be fun if you get on.

  33. Lyosha

  34. aisasami

I usually travel by myself because I enjoy exploring a city by myself However, I think my next travel will be with friends or family as we want to do something together.

    1. admin

It can be a good way to see as much as you are able to and not worry about how much others can cope with.

  35. Renata

I am an avid solo traveller, however, I don’t travel solo religiously. It’s only that most of my friends don’t travel as much as I do. Also, solo doesn’t mean lonely….

    1. admin

It’s good to hear you don’t get lonely when travelling solo.

  36. Aditi

I always think travelling with others especially family and friends is much more fun.. but sometimes a solo trip is all you need to find your own self and calm your soul.. so a balance is good.

    1. admin

That’s true, I think a trip to a spa would work well for me lol.

  37. prajaktasfoodlab

I always like traveling with someone, it makes the experience so enriching and fun too. Though I like the idea of traveling alone it’s just not for me.

    1. admin

I do agree, I like the idea of solo travel but I don’t think it’s for me.

  38. Samantha Donnelly

I do know people who have travelled alone, I know I would hate it as love to have someone to explore with, plus I am a nightmare at finding myself around places and would easily get lost

  39. Anosa Malanga

Both traveling alone and traveling with friends and family have disadvantages and advantages. There are times I want to travel alone to discover more of myself and there are times I want to travel with friends and family too.

    1. admin

That’s very true. I do love travelling with others myself but there are advantages and disadvantages to each.
