Easy Car Safety Tips
#ad It was just a mere two weeks ago that we were enjoying the most glorious weather. The kids and I had gotten into the routine of walking to and from school. Then the weather changed. The rain was incessant. We were forced to drive to school instead; our wellies and umbrellas came along for the ride so that we wouldn’t be soaked during the walk from the car to the children’s classes. This sudden change of weather served as a reminder to me that various safety checks were probably due.
It is essential for those that drive to make sure their car is safe. As a parent, this is something I will do a few times a year. Thankfully what I check is not overly complicated so it doesn’t take much effort and isn’t complicated either.
Car Safety
In order to ensure our car is safe, there are a few areas we need to check.
These include:
Worn Tyres
Tyres that are worn are often the main reason for MOT failures. It is important to check that the threads are the right depth. In order to do it simply take a twenty penny piece and insert it into the main thread grooves. As long as the outer band of the coin cannot be seen the tyre doesn’t need replacing.
Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressure is super easy to check if you have the right equipment like the tyre inflators available at tool station. These are easy to use, will allow you to check the current tyre pressure and increase if required. Be careful not to overinflate your tyres as this will lead to a loss of traction and affect braking distance. The correct pressure for these will be found in the car handbook.
Keep an Eye on the Exhaust
Watch out for smoke or noise. The exhaust of the car is considered most important as it affects car performance and helps the whole engine run properly. The best way to avoid any problem is by checking the exhaust regularly. My husband’s old car had a hole in the exhaust and it made the most horrible sound. Like my husband, you can book a car exhaust repair service from Iverson Tyres. They were able to change this thankfully and we saw an end to that dreadful noise.
Service the Car Regularly
It goes without saying that regularly servicing your car can help identify issues that you may not have otherwise discovered. We service our cars yearly and it gives our family peace of mind that the cars we are driving are safe to use. Maintain your car and it is less likely to breakdown. Naturally, this is something I want to avoid as more often than not the kids are in the car with me as I make my way around the roads in London.
Which car checks do you think are most important to carry out?

It is so important to keep on top of all things related to car safety. Nothing worse than breaking down with kids in the car!
Great post, acts as a reminder that we really must be mindful about our cars in the same way we would our own health.
I’d hate to be stranded on the side of the road with kids especially because of something that could be avoided x

These are great reminders, most of the time people tend to forget safety because of they’re busy scheds.
I’d add that its important as a parent to check that car seats are fitted correctly, that children are using the correct seat for their age and that they are not wearing coats in the seats.
