Bar and Block Kings Cross

Kings Cross has had a facelift over the last few years. The area looks so much more upmarket and has seen a number of great restaurants open. In December 2016 the Kings Cross branch of Bar and Block officially opened their doors to meat loving foodies. There are various cuts on offer including fillet, ribeye, sirloin and on the butchers block you will find their cut of the day where you can try something a little different.  The steaks are from British breeds of cattle reared across the Pampas in South America. Steaks are hand-cut on site from beef that has been dry aged for a minimum of 28 days.  You can have your steak as big as you want, you simply need to ask.  They start at 8oz and a steak this size I was told when combined with a house salad weighed in at just 600 kcal!  The classic cuts are served with your choice of house salad or beef dripping triple cooked chunky chips.
This trendy steak restaurant does also have vegetarian options on offer should you prefer including Tandoori Cauliflower Salad, a selection of items in the grazing plate section of the menu and also a Halloumi and Courgette Burger which sounds really tasty.  There is also a great range of desserts that are suitable which all sound yummy.  I was told that they will also try to cater for vegans where they can.
The aim is to provide high quality steaks at affordable prices and they really do achieve this.  The restaurant decor is modern and the seating is comfortable.  They even have  a chefs table near the kitchen.  At the front was a bar area and in the back was the restaurant.  It is clearly popular with local workers and residents as we saw a variety of clientele there during the course of the evening from families, to groups of friends to people others in suits.
Staff are friendly and guests are warmly greeted and shown to tables quickly.  The menu was varied – it’s not just steaks available.
From Monday to Thursday 5-7pm you can get half price cocktails which I must admit is very tempting as is Fizz Fridays where a bottle of Prosecco is £18 all day.
On arriving at the table we were presented with beef flavoured popcorn to nibble on whilst we decided on what to order.

Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum blended with mango, fresh lime and sugar.

Mango Daiquiri – an exotic twist to the more common strawberry which is very popular. You can tell the alcohol is there but it’s not excessively strong. This smooth mango cocktail with a delicious tangyness from the lime is easy to drink, very refreshing and tastes great.

The first dish was from the butchers block:

Chargrilled 10oz Picanha

Deliciously tender 10oz picanha topped with chimichurri and served with beef dripping chunky chips and a salad wedge topped with blue cheese and crispy oak smoked dry cured streaky bacon.
