Necklace Lanyards for Ladies

Many of you use Lanyards for work whether you work in a school, office etc.  Lanyards are normally extremely boring looking accessories.  They are often pretty chunky with a thick strap and a great big clip that screams OMG look at this monstrosity hanging around my neck.

Don’t they look awful?

Given the option I always go for things that are dainty and delicate looking rather than big, chunky and pretty boring!  I understand that they serve a useful purpose but why can’t they look nicer?  Well actually they can.  No longer do I need to be bunched with the masses wearing these sorts of lanyards when I go to a press event.  Why is that?  No, I haven’t tattooed my blog name on my forehead and I don’t write it in tanning cream across my face a few hours before either, that would just be silly.

I have my own super stylish, dainty and pretty lanyard that is sure to be a winner with many fashionistas around the world.

My Lanyards come from a company called maisie-jane.com who specialise in making them look simply fabulous so that they look like a cross between a necklace and lanyard with their unique and varied designs.  These have three key features adding to their usability:

A removable hook, so you can use it with your work pass or on your name badge if attending a conference / event.

Quick release fastening, secured by magnets so if used for your work pass, it will be compliant with most HSE guidelines.

Zip assist, use the hook provided for the work pass on your dress zip!  That’s right this necklace can even help you zip / un-zip your dress.  Isn’t that wonderful, I think many will get one just for that!  It beats having to waiting a forever for hubby to help or for friends to arrive to zip you in and then the fun and games of getting out again after.

Want to see what they look like?

Don’t these look much better?

I am sure you will agree that they do and there are many different options available to choose from which is great.  There are single charm and multiple charm necklaces, some with a little sparkle.  Maisie-Jane follow the latest trends to bring new pieces to their growing collection including pieces featuring pineapples hearts, apples a butterfly, handbags and even shoes.

These retail at just £12.50 which is nothing for something you can wear daily to work and it’s much nicer than the ordinary Lanyards so it’s worth getting a few different ones so you can swap them around during the week.  For anyone that would like to be the envy of all their work colleagues I have some fabulous news.  One lucky reader has the chance to win one of these pretty Lanyards.

Luxury Easter Eggs That Look Amazing

I’m not finished with Easter Eggs just yet.  Even after discovering and buying some that were on offer from Tesco for some of the children I know I have now changed the focus to other types of egg.  There are so many Easter eggs available and some are truly works or art.  I thought I would take a little look around the internet and share with you some of my favourites.  In some cases it might be best not to look at their prices lol as some do come with a hefty price tag.  So what did I discover on my travels?  These were some of my favourites:

Choccywoccydoodah

The Hare Family Eggs – Series of 3 Eggs

The Mr & Mrs and Sailor Boy eggs are comprised of 100kg of chocolate each.  Now that is serious chocolate heaven.  I have no idea of the price but it’s not going this be on offer that’s for sure.  The price is available on request.  Their dragon eggs last year were being sold for £25,000 if that gives you an idea of the sort of prices these guys can command for a monster sized egg.

Godiva

Giant Easter Atelier Egg

This luxury chocolate egg is handmade in Brussels by executive chef chocolatier’s Jean Apostolou and Ilse Wilmots and looks not only enormous but also delicious.  It weighs 13kg and features an array of beautiful white chocolate butterflies that are hand painted.  These are available from Harrods and Selfridges.  It costs a mere £1000 and I’m sure it is worth every penny.

Bettys

Imperial Easter Egg

The egg is named after the Imperial Suite at their Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate and is a real showpiece in craftsmanship.  It is decorated by hand with beautiful spring flowers.  Don’t let the small photo fool you this egg contains over 5.4 kilos of high quality milk or dark chocolate.  This egg is made-to-order and delivered personally, so you will need to contact them to place an order.  This pretty egg is available for £250.  There are some lovely smaller and cheaper options also available like this:

Trio of Spring Flower Eggs

These cute eggs are made with the finest Swiss chocolate and presented in a pastel box. Created to complement one another perfectly, the trio contains one milk chocolate egg, hand-stippled with dark chocolate; one dark chocolate and one eau de nil white chocolate egg with a silver lustre. Each is decorated with Royal iced spring flowers, carefully piped by hand.  260g of chocolate for £27.50 isn’t too bad when you are going for quality and great presentation.

Lick The Spoon

Paisley Easter Egg – Monterery

I love the colours and simple design of this egg that really make it stand out.   It would be almost a shame to break it up and eat although I’m guessing I would manage if I got one.  These celebrate 50 years since the famous ‘summer of love’ and the festivals held at the time.  Drawing on Paisley design influences their beautiful handmade egg is a thick chocolate shell covered in a gossamer thin pastel layer. The surface is hand decorated with an intricate gold Paisley design.  This egg comes presented in a blue keyhole box with a box of 12 Spring collection chocolates.  You will get 800g of chocolate for just £85!

Artisan du Chocolat

Sculpture Egg

Not your average Easter egg this is more like a piece of art and can be found in Harvey Nicols.  This is made from intense 70% Colombian dark chocolate and expertly finished in gold shimmer with an 18kt gold leaf adorning the central egg, what a stunning egg to grace any table or fireplace (don’t turn that on of course) until it is time to devour it.  There are mini eggs also included and this contains a total of 430g of chocolate which is priced at £44.95.

What did you think of the eggs I featured?

Have you seen any that look fab that I may have missed?

Germ Scientists Approve 5 Second Food Rule!

Have you heard of the 5 second rule? I think most of us have nowadays and not only that, most have also used it especially on sweets and chocolate.  I mean really that would otherwise be a total waste right?  For those unaware the 5 second rule literally means that food dropped on the floor if picked up straight away (within 5 seconds) is normally safe to eat.

(Pictured above Horseradish, Cheddar and Smoked Salmon Toasted Sandwich)

I’ve generally worked with this of course depending on what and where food is dropped.  Anything dropped in the streets is a no go but in the home especially when I have just cleaned it is generally okay.  It also depends on the food dropped.  Spilt soup or melted chocolate will not be licked off the floor but cleaned and then the floor sprayed with dettol and given a wipe.  We don’t wear shoes in the house which helps keep it that much cleaner thankfully.  My thoughts have always been that a few germs won’t kill you and if anything they will help improve the ability of our immune system.

Today the 5 second rule was given the all clear by scientists.  This is thanks to germ expert Anthony Hilton from Aston University.  Although it can never been entirely risk free as it depends on the floor in many cases and an obviously filthy floor should never been eaten off – basic common sense.  Going with common sense you will of course also check the item you have dropped prior to eating it to make sure there are no obvious signs of dirt.  In many cases it is safe to eat a dropped sweet from a clean floor although it has also been shown that germ transfer can occur within less than 5 seconds.  As a rule I would say only do this in your own home when you know you have cleaned the floor very recently (we only have wooden floors and stone tiled floors which are far easier to clean.).  Do not eat off wet floors as this can speed up germ transfer, this rule also applies to moist foods.  If you have pets it all goes out of the window, don’t eat anything off the floor as they walk inside and outside spreading a large range of bacteria as they go that you really don’t want to welcome any of those into your body to cause havoc.

What do you think?

Have you ever used the 5 second rule?

Gel-A-Peel Pearly Pastel Kit Review and Giveaway

My girls love to do arts and crafts and honestly if there were more hours in the day we would be getting creative on a daily basis.  Unfortunately with school taking up to much time and then the dreaded homework, trying to squeeze in reading and then not forgetting the tutors with their homework most of our days are used up so there isn’t much time to get out all our arts and crafts gear and get making fabulous designs.  The weekends are great as we have a little more time to do things so this weekend the girls were super organised and started preparing for Mother’s Day 2017 which is on the 27th of March.  It was really appropriate as apparently March is #NationalCraftMonth.  They decided to design Mother’s Day cards using a new product we had been sent to review: Gel-A-Peel.

For those like us that have never come across Gel-A-Peel before this is very easy to use and I speak from experience.  This was something we were very excited to try and we read all the instructions first to make sure we did it correctly.  There isn’t much to it, you simply choose your nozzle (tip) and pipe the gel into shapes and patterns.

The girls were very keen to do a YouTube video to tell you all about it:

Inside the box we found 3 pearly pastel gel tubes, 16 design templates, 5 designer tips, and a gel tray.  You can also use this in arts and crafts designs it’s a flexible product and isn’t limited to one thing.  We decided to get creative and make some Mother’s Day cards so firstly we used the tray provided to make some gems and flowers.

The gems and other items will take a few hours to dry.  We left ours whilst the kiddies were out so about 6 hours.  I also thought I we should also make one of the items the kit has been designed for so we made some bracelets using one of the templates provided.  We added in some crystals (these did not come with the pack) as we thought they would look great against the pearl colour of the bracelets.  The crystals were attached whilst the gel was still wet.

Then we started on our card designs.

Didn’t they do a fabulous job!

The cards could have also be made using the gel pens only like this:

The girls also loved their bracelets.  Don’t they look pretty.  They felt very soft too and the girls liked stroking them.

My girls plan to make some more bracelets for their friends.

We thought that this was a fab arts and crafts set and that you guys would love one too so we are holding a competition for one lucky reader to win a Pearly Pastel Kit like the one shown in this review.

Entry is super easy just enter via the rafflecopter form.

Large Easter Eggs for £2. Bargain!

With Easter on it way my children are getting really excited especially if they get to go to the supermarket with me and behold the wonder that is the seasonal Aisle laden with colourful boxes covered in their favourite characters, some containing mugs, others with morning sets and a selection with kids toys and not forgetting lots of chocolate and sweets.  This has got to be most children’s idea of heaven but then we have the flip side where as parents we don’t want to overdo the sugar intake or spend a fortune buying kids Easter eggs.  Off the top of my head I need to buy about 10 eggs although I may have missed a few children to will need to double check that.  Easter eggs don’t need to cost a fortune and the best way to buy is by doing a quick price comparison of supermarket prices before you go so you know which store to aim for.

For those looking a super Easter egg deal then look no further.  Tesco have a super deal where you can buy a Cadbury egg for a mere £2.  Yes you read that correctly £2!!!!!  These eggs can be purchased online or instore.  The egg weights vary from 266g to 307g depending on which of the selection you choose.

Having compared these with Morrisons  and Asda who are selling the same eggs for £4 each or 3 for £10 and Sainsbury’s who are selling them for £3 each Tesco is selling them for a super bargain price so they are worth checking out if you need eggs as gifts and this way you can get far more for your money allowing for a better treat for a mini or big chocolate monster.

The eggs that can be found on this promotion include: Cadbury’s Double Decker, Whispa, Twirl, Cream Egg, Hero’s, Oreo, Marvellous Creations, Terry’s Chocolate Orange, Snickers, M&M’s, Kit at Bites, Mars, Teasers and many more.

This offer is valid until the 14th of March so don’t think about it too long as these eggs will be flying off the shelves fast and I should know I bought 10 today!  These are great as you don’t just get the chocolate you get a fab mug too.

Happy Egg hunting!

What to Do If You Are In A Car Accident

Recently I narrowly avoided a car accident.  I was on my way to take the children to school and the road ahead was blocked by cars on either side and oncoming traffic.  The driver in front of me turned onto a drive on the side to let the cars coming in the opposite direction to pass so that we could clear the blockage.  I also moved into the space to allow cars to pass.  The second they had done so the car in front started reversing.  The driver clearly hadn’t looked or couldn’t see from his high up perch as it was a four by four type vehicle and it didn’t look like it was going to stop.  Checking behind me I noticed that there was room to reverse so I did so narrowly avoiding the careless driver infront of me reversing into me.  Another car was coming from the other direction and went through the gap stopping next to me as he was also blocked.  The careless driver then swing the back of his car out into the road hitting the car the that had just passed and again had clearly not checked to see whether anyone was behind him.  Honestly it was ridiculous and also concerning.  Had a parent with a child been trying to rush through a gap between cars, I’ve seen that many a time, one or both of them could have been severely injured or killed.  Luckily in this case no one was hurt and the driver who was hit didn’t seem too aggressive to the careless driver from what I could see from the safety of my locked car with closed windows (I wasn’t taking any chances as you never know with some people).  The driver was clearly driving recklessly and in my opinion had a vehicle way to large for him to handle.

We see it all the time people venturing down the narrowest of roads with the most enormous cars that they haven’t got proper control of and it really is concerning but for today’s post I will concentrate on something super useful especially for those that may not have had an accident in the past

What to Do If You Are In A Car Accident

Some of you that drive may have experienced a car accident and for those those that have yet to do so would you know what to do and do you have the necessary information that you need on hand?  Firstly it is a good idea to have the relevant information handy in case it is required.  For any of you that are unlucky enough to be involved in an accident you will need to do the following:

Try and move to a safe place where possible you don’t want to cause another accident.

Depending on where and how bad the accident is get out of the car.

Check to see if others involved are okay.

Call the police and if required ask or an ambulance too.

Take a photo as this can be used as evidence if required. Most of us use our phones for photos and they come in handy for something like this especially.

Collect information from the other driver(s) involved including their name, contact number, address, vehicle registration number, insurance details and also get details from witnesses as you never know when someone who is at fault will change their mind and story.  Note down the time and location of the accident.  You will need to note down the weather conditions and also the damage as this may also be required.

Report the accident to your insurer asap.  Policies vary and the longer you take the higher the chance that your claim will no longer be valid.

I hope this post has been useful to many of you or it is something you can pass on to friends and loved ones especially new drivers.

7 in 1 Beauty Care Massager

We all need a little help to help us look our best especially as we get older.  There are so many gadgets out there that we can assist to help us look our great and they don’t all need to cost a fortune.  Take the 7 in 1 Beauty Care Massager that I discovered recently.  This super gadget has such a range of functions that it has quickly become a bathroom beauty essential in my eyes.  The massager has 7 different heads that can be swapped around to suit the beauty treatment that you require.  It is claimed to decrease fine lines, exfoliate dead skin and give deep pore cleansing.  This is safe to use with high and low speed options and easily changeable heads. The massager is perfect for use on the face, feet, elbows, knees, basically anywhere that you might get rough skin or where you want the skin looking brighter.

The Heads

As I mentioned there are 7 heads for this device each with its own purpose.

Short & Long Ultra Fine Brushes (1&2)

Both these brushes can be used to clear any dead skin from the surface of the area it is used and exfoliate at the same time.

Pumice Applicator (3)

This head is great for filling down and smoothing rough skin often found on the feet.

Crude Polish Accessory (4)

Perfect for exfoliation of dry and hard skin.  This will rub the dead cells off super fast and reveal the healthy soft skin beneath.  Results are immediate making the skin look healthier.  It also helps increase blood flow to the area used increasing the removal of waste from the area and increasing the nutrients to the skin in that area helping to improve its appearance further.

Rolling Massager (5)

This feels great on the skin and is also quite relaxing.  Its purpose is to stimulate an increase in blood circulation to the skin helping to increase removal of toxins and help oxygen travel better to the skin helping to promote a smoother fresher complexion.

Latex Soft Sponge & Make Up Sponge (6 & 7)

These super soft sponges are perfect for use over the skin to clean and massage.  The sponges gently massage to remove dead skin and also increases the circulation to the area helping to make the skin appear brighter and smoother.  The latex sponge is designed to be used specifically over the delicate eye area and cheeks.

What did I think?

This is super simple to use.

The heads are easy to change they simply slip on and off just make sure that you click them into place when adding them onto the massager.

The massager is a great size so it doesn’t take too much space and isn’t heavy to hold.  It can be easily slipped into a suitcase for your travels.

The device is easy to hold due to its handle design and I love its super feminine colouring.

I also liked the range of heads to allow you to improve the appearance of various parts of the body.

This seemed to do a good job at exfoliating whether I used it on my face or body and I just applied different amounts of pressure depending on the area of use.

How long it will last I don’t know but if you buy it off Amazon for £13.99 and they sell them with a one year guarantee.

The device needs two AA batteries which are not included.

Pocket Microscope from Interplay

I loved science when I was younger, in fact I loved it so much I ended up studying herbal medicine.  If found it really interesting to find out how the human body worked as well as learning more about nature.  My girls also seem to be displaying an interest in the human body and also the natural world and of course I want to encourage this as much as possible.  We do go out and about looking at all sorts of things such as creepy crawlies, fungi of various types, animals/birds that we may come across.  I remember one year we came across a field that had baby frogs.  We stayed for hours, the girls would run around and try and catch them although their reaction was hilarious when they jumped at them.  I remember as a child having my own microscope although what happened to that I haven’t a clue so when Interplay offered me the opportunity to review their pocket microscope of course I couldn’t refuse.

The microscope comes packaged with everything you might need to get started including a microscope, a sample slide with grasshopper parts, a sample slide with textiles, 3 blank microscope slides, 12 transparent sample covers, 12 labels for samples, 4 storage jars, tweezers and an instruction booklet.

You will need 2 AA batteries for this so if you are buying this for your children or as a gift bare that in mind it’s disappointing when you can’t play with your toys as you don’t have the necessary batteries.

Setting up the microscope is simple.  All you need to do is put the batteries in pull the torch to turn it on and look through.  The samples provided are great as they give little ones something to start looking at but it isn’t hard to find other things to pop under the microscope.  Simply look around the house, you will find plenty of items in the kitchen such as salt, sugar, whole and ground pepper.  Even something as simple as a hair from you hairbrush can be placed under the microscope.

There are plenty of items too that can be found outside to look at.  Why not try looking at a leaf of a stem of a plant.  Insects or parts of insects can also work well.  Don’t forget it the insect is live it won’t keep still so it might be more of a challenge to focus on it with the microscope.

We headed off into the garden to see what we could get our hands on.  The girls were very brave until we found a spider.  Neither wanted to try and catch it so of course mummy (who really doesn’t like spiders) had to assist (eeeuuuuuggggghhhhhh).  With our eight legged friend in tow we headed indoors to take a look and get some pictures to show everyone.

This looks like it could be a brown spider although I could be mistaken.  It has plenty of larger relatives in our garden but thankfully we didn’t come across any of those otherwise I am sure you would have heard our screams across the UK.  Although terrified of these we do also find them quite fascinating as long as they can’t touch us.

The microscope is small enough to fit into a pocket, handbag or back pack and is very light.  It can be used on the go if you find anything exciting you want to take a closer look at.  The microscope magnifies items to 30 times their actual size.

My girls are looking forward to discovering more creepy crawlies and looking at more things under the microscope too.  This is a great way to encourage children to move away from computer screens and get outside more and it can also be educational as well as great fun!

What creepy crawlies or other items would you like to see under a microscope?

Pancake Day with Num Noms #NumNomsFoodie

It’s Pancake Day, yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!

We love pancakes so when the guys at Num Noms set us a challenge to create a Num Nom inspired pancake we of course had to accept, any excuse to make some pancakes.

The guys sent us a little

Inspiration…

to help us get those creative juices flowing.  They came up with some great sounding ideas combining some of their Num Noms.

Coconut Raspberry Topper

Introducing Razzi Berry, Coco Cali and Choco Sprinkles!  We think these three would make a pancake with just the right balance of sweet, sour, and a hint of coconut!

Straw-Nana Mallow Madness

When you already have a Nom which combines the delicious flavours of strawberry and banana in a lipgloss, it would be crazy not to combine these two in a pancake.  We’re bringing extra tasty toastyness with Toasty Mallow too, because who wouldn’t want melted marshmallow in a pancake?

Just cheese

When you need a savoury treat, where better to start than cheese?  Cheesy Burrito is our chosen character for this one, part of the Fiesta food Starter Pack it makes for the perfect pancake.

Our creation combined two Num Noms

We thought we would have a bit of fun and make a pancake stack that looked like a Num Nom, how cool is she!

We also wanted to show this as a normal dessert.

We made a stack of mini pancakes then topped it with a home made dark chocolate ganache that combined 50g melted dark chocolate and 50ml double cream combined.  This was topped with yummy fresh strawberries and squirty cream and hundreds and thousands.

The kids couldn’t wait to tuck in.  Apparently it was “really good” not that I’d know as I didn’t get any.  Poor mummy.

We had so many different Nums Noms to inspire us.  The delicious Series 3 stackables has nine new collections, new themes include Marshmallows, Donuts, Fruits, Veggies, Candy and Fiesta Foods.  This seasons Noms are either erasers, stampers or dual-flavoured lip glosses, and of course they all smell so delicious.

We were also sent some starter packs to review.  You can take a look at our #unboxingvideo here and see what we were sent:

Available within Series 3 Mystery Pots, Starter Packs, Lunch Box Deluxe Packs and Surprise in a Jar, the uniquely scented characters have never been more fun, with so many ways to collect.

The lip-gloss range has also expanded, with duos of flavours such as Straw-Nana, Peachy Pina and Mintberry now being served!

There are so many fabulous scents and products now available we wanted to share the fun yet again with yet another wonderful Num Noms giveaway.  This time we will be giving away 1 Series 3 Lunchbox Deluxe Pack & 1 Series 3 Starter Pack!

skinChemists Bee Venom Facial Serum

There are so many beauty products on the market and it can be very overwhelming.  Deciding what to choose can be hard and many of us can be easily influenced by brand names, price and fancy packaging although not all expensive products do what they claim too and many low priced products can be basic and in some cases ineffective.  The use of bee venom in beauty products has become a growing trend.  Yes I am talking about the bee venom secreted by the back end of a bee when it stings you.  Now I know you’re thinking why would anyone in their right mind want to apply products with bee venom to their skin, it is designed to be an irritant causing itching and swelling.  Don’t worry all will be revealed shortly.

The Science Part!

As our skin ages it loses its collagen resulting in the signs of ageing such as sagging skin and wrinkles forming.  By applying a product with bee venom the skin is in a sense tricked into believing it has been stung.  When you are stung the body’s normal response would be to increase the blood circulation to the area in question so application of a product containing bee venom to the face for example (not forgetting the neck and decolletage) will increase the blood flow in that area which will in turn encourage the production of collagen and elastin in the area of application.  The resulting effect is to give the skin a plumper, firmer appearance reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The company skinChemists sent me some of their best selling Bee Venom Facial Serum for an overview.  This serum is packed with a range of ingredients that are designed to nourish, plump and hydrate the skin and which work together to stimulate the skin to give it a smoother and firmer appearance.

Within this serum the main active ingredients are:

Bee Venom

As mentioned this increases the blood flow and this in turn increases the flow of nutrients to the multiple layers of the skin resulting in a firmer, plumper appearance and the reduction in the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines.

Hyaluronic Acid

Another fabulous product which is great in making lines look reduced.  This acts by increasing the moisture levels in the skin thus plumping it up.  Imagine the skin is a wrinkly deflated balloon.  As the Hyaluronic acid begins to take effect the moisture levels within the skin increase so in effect the balloon would begin to inflate making those wrinkles less and less visible and the skin looking much firmer as it works.

A Blend of Amino Acids

The amino acids have an important role which is to balance the skin improving its clarity and encouraging a brighter complexion.

Animal Friendly

skinChemists do not harm any animals in the making of their products.  The bee venom used in this product is from a sustainable source which applies to the industry standards of technological extraction.

My Findings

The bee venom facial serum felt very light and absorbed well into the skin and left it feeling velvety soft.  The aroma is nice and not overpowering.  There was no adverse effect on the skin or reddening.  The pump bottle the serum comes in allows for easy dispensing and prevents too much product being used.  The design of the packaging is simple, pretty and effective.

SkinChemist products have had rave reviews from all sorts of celebrities and quite honestly I can now safely say I understand why.  I have something truly shocking I wanted to share.  I have only been using this for 3 days.  That’s 1 application at night and one in the morning over the face, neck and decolletage each day and already my skin looks brighter.  I must admit to about 5 rechecks at least as I couldn’t believe my eyes.  I looked in the mirror this morning and thought my eyes were going funny initially maybe due to water loss overnight but then I looked again in another room.  My skin did look brighter.  This really does give me a great feeling about this products ability and I am hoping soon I will notice a reduction in my wrinkles and fine lines too.

The results speak for themselves with celebrities fashion designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Stefano Gabbana and model Jourdan Dunn singing their praises.  Camilla (The Duchess of Cornwall) has also confessed to using this fabulous must have beauty secret after which sales of this serum sky rocketed.  With Mother’s Day coming up this youth elixir in a pump action bottle is something that I know any mum would love to get their hands on so why not get mum something she really wants a more youthful complexion and appearance.

Now for the price.  The RRP of the serum is £135 BUT skinChemists have given me a code for my readers to get this serum for the bargain price of £19.99.
