  1. I think it is choose your clothes wisely – Light Linen with plenty of air-flow – loose and floaty

  2. Drink plenty of water and avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day. Also wearing light lose clothing helps to keep cool!

  3. Feet are my secret. Lose the trainers during the day. Let your feet dangle out of the bed at night. If it’s stinking hot a paddling pool is all you need to instantly cool down.

  4. We have powerful fans in our living room and bedroom – couldn’t manage without them in the hot weather! x

  5. I always run cold water over my wrists to cool down when it gets very hot. I don’t know if it’s an old wives’ tale for quickly cooling the blood or your core body temperature…but it works for me. x

  6. Always keep the ice cube tray topped up. We use silicone muffin cases topped with water with a slice of lemon or orange. Extra large ice cubes.

  7. Too keep cool in the summer I would jump into a pool or go for a swim in the sea as I would probably be at the beach anyway 😀

  8. When I’m at home I get the paddling pool out, but when I have to go to work I take a big bottle of squash. The night before I get a big drinks bottle and freeze a big bottle of squash so as it melts I had a lovely cold drink, but take a tea towel for the condensation or you’ll have a puddle on the desk.

  9. Don,t go out between 12 and 2pm, I always try to do my chores and shopping early morning or late afternoon.

  10. Keep the bedroom curtains closed which should keep the room nice and cool & try to use cotton bed linen and drink plenty of water

  11. I like to use the chiller blocks that you put in cooler bags, freeze them, wrap them in a plastic bag, then rest my feet on them, it is heaven, have even done this at work – no one has noticed 😀

  12. Keep all the curtains and blinds closed during the day and open the windows at night, drink plenty of water and if it’s really hot I just stay indoors

  13. Wow Melanie, your Blog is a fab find! Was searching for info on daylight and mood and found your article interesting. Keep up the good work 🙂

  14. Always make sure there’s ice in the freezer and remember that paddling pools are not just for kids!

    1. That’s very true. Although if you’re getting in with them you might need a nice big pool to fit everyone. Have fun!

  15. I always keep a water bottle in the freezer, and put it on my neck and face. Ice cold bath and showers help a ton. If desperate, pop to the shops!

  16. Wear light, breathable cotton and/or silk.
Drinking lots of cool water and having a facial spray with the same 🙂

  17. Cups of tea , contrary to what you might think , they really help you cool down . I also keep 2 “hot water bottles” on the go , one in the fridge , the other usually resting behind my back . Then swap .

  18. we went to rome in a few weeks ago and it was 32 to 34 degrees most days. I bought one of those cheap little hand held battery fans with water spray from poundland. It was a life saver , I topped it up with cool water at every fountain!! I used it all the time and it was still going on the same battery after 5 days!

  19. I wear natural fibres and open windows to allow air to circulate around the house. We live near the sea, and if it’s really hot then it’s a quick dip after work!

  20. A cooling spray on the back of your hand works a treat, one way of lowering body temperature is to lower the temperature of the nerves in your hand

  21. stay in the shade, drink plenty of water and if your really hot run cold water over your wrists to cool down

  22. Frozen everything! Keep a stash of ice cubes in the freezer, for all your drinks, and freeze individual grapes and strawberries as mini snacks – they are cooling and delicious frozen treats.

  23. I just sit in the shade, drink cool drinks, wear loose clothing with natural fibres and if its excessively hot, stick your feet in the childrens paddling pool.

  24. stay in the shade if possible , have a mini fan, or a little bottle of water to sray yourself when your too hot 🙂
