British Sandwich Week 2018 this year starts on the 20th of May and continues until the 26th of May. We are a Nation of sandwich eaters and my favourite way to eat sandwiches has to be with an afternoon tea. What can I say I like dainty little sandwiches washed down with either tea, coffee, a cocktail of a glass of bubbles and followed by a tantalising selection of pastries.
For National Sandwich Week this year the kids have collaborated with Num Noms to bring you some great Num Nom inspired sandwiches.
There are 120 Num Noms to collect in series 4 and you can mix and match these little guys to make a whole range of scented recipes.
My girls couldn’t wait to get creative so along we went to the supermarket and filled up a basket with all sorts of edible goodies to help give us inspiration.
On with the chefs hat and they were ready to go.
Knives at the ready.
The girls started by shaping their bread.
They then added toppings.
We opted for open sandwiches as these are all the craze at the moment.
Once happy with their creations the girls posed for a picture.
Sandwich one displays a great use of spicy cocktail sausages topping a multi seeded bread, accompanied by a small helping of pepperoni, a teeny piece of carrot and a few small pieces of strawberry.
Sandwich two again makes good use of a multi seeded bread and is given a healthy coating of cream cheese to give a good calcium boost. Topped with a thin round of mozzarella and then a slice of salami both of which add a great flavour making this a little like an uncooked pizza. The strawberry pieces add an unusual yet interesting twist.
It wasn’t long before the girls both eager to taste their sandwiches decided to take a bite.
The girls enjoyed playing with their food. It’s a great way for children to get creative with flavours and also helps to encourage them to try new things too. It was lovely to see them enjoying making their own food and hilarious that they were stuffing their faces whilst making it. I had purposely bought a few new salamis / hams to try which went down very well. They ate far more then ended up on their sandwiches.
The girls were really excited that the guys at Num Noms have said we can give away one of the Series 4 lunchboxes.
