Mini Dinosaur Backpack with Safety Harness Reins

It’s fun getting out and about but not always so easy when you have 3 children to keep an eye on.  I am one of those mums that is a little over protective of her young.  I tend to like to hold their hands when we walk down the road although I know many others that are that bit more relaxed with their children allowing them to run along ahead and in some cases not being as watchful as you might expect.  Maybe I’m over doing it or maybe I’m not but with the world nowadays I appreciate children need to be street savvy but also am aware that people are busier and in many cases more careless when they drive.  I’ve seen cars swerve onto the road near children and noticed some drivers not paying attention as they drive, reverse etc.  I have always use reigns on my little ones, I appreciate some parents like them and others are not such big fans but I think they are great to allow little ones to have that bit more freedom (and exercise) than having to sit in a pushchair or hold mummy’s hand all the time.  Of course holding 3 hands doesn’t quite add up and so when I have all 3 with me I have mastered a way of making sure all are safe having mini man in the pushchair and the girls holding on to either side.  Mr Squishy has now thrown a spanner in the works though and has been insisting on walking a lot more which is fine but not quite so easy with the length of my reigns.  I had seen a few mums out and about with backpacks that had reigns on them and thought this to be a wonderful idea so when Babymel got in touch and asked if I wanted to review a backpack with reigns it was clearly meant to be!

Many of you will have heard of Babymel, they provide a whole range of kiddie related products from changing bags, lunch bags, bottles, backpacks and more.  We were sent a backpack for Mr Squishy to review.

The bag we were sent was the;

Mini Dinosaur Backpack with Safety Harness Reins

This is super cute and the perfect size as Mr Squishy is 2.5 and so this isn’t too large for his back.  This is suitable for ages 1 to 4 so he will get plenty of use out of it.  He loved the backpack as he finally had one of his own and didn’t need to try and steal his sisters ones anymore by grabbing them when they weren’t looking and making a run for it.  That would never turn out well for him so Mr Squishy is over the moon he now has one.  As you might imagine he was extremely eager to use it so he packed his bag with all the essentials.

The backpack is covered with cute dinosaurs and has a detachable safety harness/ reins perfect to keep me happy in the knowledge I have a good hold of my little man.  The harness is well made with a metal clip which I loved as my reigns have a plastic clip.  There is a large zipped compartment for storing all sorts of goodies from packed lunches to fun stuff.  There is an elasticated strap inside to help keep bottles secured which is handy.  Inside there is also a section where you can write the owners name inside a monster!  There is also a smaller pocket in the front of the bag perfect for tissues, hand wash and a few Wow Toys drivers.  Mr Squishy loves helping mummy by packing his bag to go out.  He is able to unzip and zip up the bag and even tries to put it on his back but still needs assistance with that but he is doing well.

Once the backpack is on he is ready to go out and can’t wait.  Sometimes he will quickly sneak in an extra toy or ten whilst mummy locks up (before the bag is on him).

This little man loves going out and about with his new backpack and loves the extra freedom it gives him.  Mummy is very pleased that it has padded straps and that they feel comfy for Squishy and also very secure so she doesn’t need to worry about the front clip or attachment to the bag opening on it’s own or breaking.  Mr Squishy has yet to discover that the cute little PVC-free, BPA-free, Phthalate-free Zip & Zoe tag attached is musical although mummy has sneakily pressed it then flipped the bag over and pretended she doesn’t know where the music is coming from lol.

My little man couldn’t be happier with this fab new backpack and loves to grab it and prepare it to encourage mummy to go out for extra walks.  It’s handy to know that when my little man is a bit older and I am somewhere I feel he will be safe I can unclip the harness and let him have a little roam around.

All purchases are covered by a 6 month warranty which is useful to be aware of and these guys have been awarded 5 stars for both their service and this product on Feefo.  This product is a recent addition to their product range but I am sure it will do well it is a great little bag for boys and girls that love dinosaurs.

Would you use a backpack with reigns for your children?

Love Songs for Feb 2017

I love music.  I listen to music and sing on a daily basis and if I wasn’t so shy I probably be singing somewhere – not just in the shower and to the kids.  I love listening to a range of music and have noticed that there are some great love songs being played at the moment which is of course very appropriate with Valentine’s Day coming up.

Love1

I know not everyone is a fan of Valentine’s Day but I am sure you are all fans of good music so I wanted to share my favourite love songs that I have been listening to on the radio and YouTube recently.

James Arthur – Say You Won’t Let Go

Apparently I am not the only person that likes this, check out the number of views on this video!  It’s a great song and one you can sing to quite easily in the car on the way to work or on the school run or even when doing stretches after a power walk or workout.  I can see this one being used at quite a few weddings this year.

Ed Sheeran – Shape of You

This is pretty catchy and one of those songs you can enjoy with youngsters too without worrying about loads of naughty words popping up.  The beat is pretty fast so great to dance and exercise too!

Little Mix – Touch

I’m not too keen on the video on this one but the song is still very catchy.  I didn’t realise this was a Little Mix song until I saw the video.  Is it just me or are there too many gyrating men?  I think that they should have ditched most of the men and made something a bit more watchable it probably would have saved them a little on the cost of the video too having less men to pay for.

JP Cooper – September Song

I love this, it’s sweet and non offensive with NO swearing.  This song has been around for a little while but it’s going strong which really isn’t surprising.

John Legend – Love Me Now

What a great voice!  Love the lyrics in this one and the message.  I bet many of you love this song too.

There are so many great songs at the moment I couldn’t feature them all but these are some of my favourites to get you all into the mood for snuggling up to a loved one whether they are your partner, child(ren), a pet or teddy.

Top 5 Low Cost Ideas to Have Fun This January

January is not the most fun month of the year.  The weather is gloomy and it can be very cold.  The bank balance is looking rather depleted after Christmas and the January sales really haven’t done much to help this.  But think of it another way, you are going out far less so saving that money you hadn’t been paid yet and may have otherwise spent.  This is the perfect opportunity to catch up on fun activities that maybe you didn’t have the chance to before.

Here are my top 5 low budget ideas to have fun this January without having a drastic effect on your bank balance.

Go out for Dinner using Restaurant Vouchers

We all love going out for dinner, I know I do but it can be a costly pastime.  Going through websites that provide discount vouchers such as Buyagift or My Voucher Codes can give a reasonable saving plus you may discover some wonderful new restaurants that you might not have otherwise.  For example Buyagift has a 2 for 1 on a 3 course meal at The Hilton on Park Lane costing only £49.  Naturally I couldn’t resist and had to look at the menu – it’s what I do lol I AM food obsessed!  The menu is varied and I must say looks good enough to entice me out on a freezing cold winters day / night.

Fun1

The rest of my suggestions will be based from home making them equally as fun but also a little lighter on the pocket.

Dinner with Friends

This can be pretty pricey if one person foots the bill and that is not what we are looking for.  Each guest will bring a dish (prearranged so you don’t all bring a main and miss out on dessert as that would be a disaster).  Don’t forget to ask them all to bring a bottle of something alcoholic or not.  Avoid pot luck as I’ve been invited to these before and once you have tried the 3rd persons offering of a potato salad you can get pretty fed up and it’s not so much fun.  Everyone tends to have a speciality dish which they can whip up fast or at least easily and tastes great.  Another option that leads on from this is a theme night.  These can be petty fun (don’t forget you also have the option of fancy dress too here for those so inclined) and you can try some delicious dishes without is costing a fortune.  For those that lack confidence in the kitchen you have two options either buy a dish or simply arrange a few evenings with friends where they can teach you how to make various dishes as in my last suggestion.  Not only is it great fun it also increases your cooking range and makes meals far more exciting as you can improvise with ingredient the next time you make the dish to create other dishes.

spiraliser3

My Courgetti, Tomato, Chorizo and Olive recipe is easy to make, low calorie and very tasty.

Movie Night at Home

Movie night can be great fun and pretty inexpensive too.  I love to snuggle with my daughters and little boy on the sofa and watch cartoons or animated movies whilst nibbling on homemade popcorn and a share bag of chocolate.  Alternatively, once the kids are in bed it’s always nice to snuggle up to my husband and watch a movie.  If we are feeling social then I tend to grab the phone and invite a few friends over.  We love to sit around the tv watching movies and munching on snacks and drinking wine or hot chocolate or one of my homemade cocktails (I have enough alcohol to stock a bar it’s great! – surprisingly I don’t drink very often).  Again the expense is minimal if all contribute and this can often be a fun night in catching up and enjoying a great film.  I am hoping to have some friends over soon for one of these nights in – for my friends reading this, whatssap message coming to your phone soon!  PS. I have a new dessert you simply must try!!!!!!!!!!!

PPS.  Can you let me know which of these you want to watch???

Fun2

For any of my readers that might like to watch any of the above movies they are very well priced on Amazon.  I found The Hobbit for £4.49 on there, bargain!

Games Night at Home

This has got to be one of my favourite things to do along with watching movies with anyone that will watch them with me and dining in or out with friends and family.  Whether I am playing board games with the children or with our fabulous Marble Run (I love this it’s fabulous!!!!!) which is perfect for children and those like me that are very young at heart.

You have to see this in action it’s so much fun!

Want an adults night games night instead.  Not a problem again you can grab your board games and interactive games and have a great time.  My friends have various versions of Scene It and one recently bought a Disney one.  I can’t wait for her to bring it so we all have a play I think my chances are pretty good if the questions are about the movies and nothing too complicated!  That is definitely something that will make a fun evening in.  There are other versions of Scene It including a Harry Potter one, Friends, Music, Movies and others.

Baking / Cooking with Friends

As I mentioned we all have dishes we are fabulous at making and that our friends would love to learn to make too.  An evening in teaching each other how to make them would be something that I would really enjoy and would be beneficial to all.  I have been promising one of my friends that I would help her learn to make my pavlovas.  I will agree they are brilliant and that’s not me tooting my own horn – you simply must try one to fully appreciate how good they are.  These are a favourite amongst my family and I am always asked to bring one to family get-togethers.  Why not take a look at my Black Forest Fruits Eaton Mess, or my Eaton Mess with Pimms recipes to get a simple and delicious pavlova recipe.  Eaton Mess basically includes a broken up pavlova with some kind of fruit and cream added and is a lovely recipe.

It is of course easier to see them being made than to follow instructions which are not always clear.  Having taught people / trained staff in the past I learnt that that the best way to learn is to do it yourself so having friends over or going to them and talking them through a recipe can be the best way to teach them how to make it plus it’s fun.  The best part is that they might let you try it after too, yum!!!!!!

What do you think of my low budget ways to enjoy January 2017?
Do you have any suggestions that you might add?

My Top 5 Mel Gibson Action Films (includes ones I want to watch & a Competition!)

I have always loved action movies and used to watch Mel Gibson’s films when I was younger and thought they were great.  It’s nice to snuggle up on the sofa with some ice cream or chocolate and wine and watch a good action movie as they can keep you focused on the movie eyes glued to the screen so you don’t miss anything.  The fast pace stops them becoming boring in many cases and keep your attention on what is happening, ready for the next action filled scene.  I still enjoy watching action movies and do try to squeeze in a few here and there when I get a chance but time now is scarce so it’s a rarity.  Mel starred in a number of action films and these are my top 5:

Bird on a Wire

action1

I loved this movie and won’t guesstimate at approximately how many times I have seen it in case I embarrass myself.  This combined action with a bit of romance and comedy and who doesn’t love that especially when Goldie Hawn is the leading lady.  Isn’t she fabulous!  Goldie did do some great movies.  Rick Jarmin (Mel Gibson) is a federal witness who goes on the run with his ex-girlfriend, Marianne Graves (Goldie Hawn).  This is one that I do still enjoy watching and comes highly recommended.

Lethal Weapon (there were 4)

action3

If these were not on the list there would be something something seriously wrong.  These action filled movies were very popular when they first came out and I am sure that they were on each Christmas just like the Die Hard movies.  Mel’s character in the Lethal Weapon movies was fantastic.  You couldn’t help love the comical, daredevil character and Danny Glover was also good as his long suffering sidekick.  I loved that they used the same actors for all four movies as otherwise I think it would have lost its appeal and I think both Mel and Danny were irreplaceable.  The story line follows a pair of good cops that come up against all sorts throughout the movies beginning with Mel being a bit of a loner at the start when his wife dies to being an important part of Glover’s extended family by the end.  They come up against a drug lord, dirty cops and many more bad guys and make it through thankfully.  Watch out for Joe Pesci who as I recall was in the 3rd and 4th movie and adds even more humour to the mix.

Mad Max Anthology

action2

I remember watching Mel Gibson in Mad Max years ago and thinking what a great movie it was.  There were more movies that followed; Mad Max 2, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and more recently Mad Max Fury Road which starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.  These too were pretty action packed and faced paced as I recall.  I think I might need to catch up on these again as it has been a while.  These films follow Max (Mel Gibson) and is set sometime after an apocalyptic war where police are fighting roving motorcycle gangs.  Mel’s wife and son are are murdered by one of these gangs he sets out to get revenge.  The story then develops from there developing into the other movies.

The ExpendablesExpend3_triple_bd.indd

I vaguely recall having seen the first of these a while back but can’t remember it so really must watch all three.  The cast alone sounds great and as I can get all three movies on one Blu-Ray (I found it on the HMV site for anyone else that wants one) it looks like I have at least one to two evenings worth of movies to snuggle up with hubby on the sofa to watch always a good idea now it’s too cold to venture even near the front door.  The films feature the adventures of a group of professional killers fighting bad guys.  Mel Gibson is a bad guy in the 3rd movie which I am looking forward to watching.

Ransom

action5

This is a thriller / action movie where Mel – Tom Mullins’ son is kidnapped and he tries to get him back by paying the ransom initially but then realising he may still not have his son returned he changes the plan by offering the money as a reward to anyone able to get his son back.  By doing so he puts the life of both his son and wife at risk.  I need to watch this again as it’s been a while and I did think this was a great movie.

Love action movies too?

Top 5 Gift Ideas for Batman Fans

I grew up watching Batman.  I used to watch the tv series with my brother as a child and watched all the movies too.  I wouldn’t say I am a hardcore fan but I have enjoyed watching the range of movies and think I have probably seen them all to date from Batman and Robin featuring various characters like Poison Ivy and Bat girl to the most recent Dark Knight Trilogy.

batman1One of the items that I have seen and actually bought for a mini fan before is this great clock which has moveable arms and legs.  You can find these in John Lewis priced at £19.99.

This Batman mug is great and I think any fan would be delighted to have one of these.  It’s not too pricey either as it is on offer for £6.99 at The Gift and Gadget Store.

batman2
My next suggestion is pretty useful.  It’s a Batman Multi Tool for £6.50.  This bat shaped key ring is also a bottle opener and has crosshead and flathead screwdrivers in the wings.  If you want one make sure you check out The Gift Experience .co.uk.

batman3The Dark Knight Trilogy Box Set is a must for any Batman fan and can be found at HMV for just £14.99.  Forgot to buy your Batman fan one at Christmas ont worry grab it as a Birthday Gift, they will love it!

batman4
Last but not least is this super cool projection torch that no Batman fan will want to be without I know i’d love this it’s great.  Available from The Gift and Gadget Store for just £4.99.

Did you Cut your Spending this Christmas?

I have been reading all sorts of articles over the Christmas period from those about gift ideas for various members of the family, great party food ideas and more.  Some of these were found online and some I found in my inbox.  One that caught my interest covered spending over the Christmas season.

hi2

An online voucher company recently did a survey and discovered that 42% of those asked have tried to save money this Christmas.  It’s not surprising Christmas is an expensive time of year and it’s hard especially when you have little ones not to feel that you should get them the latest toy that they really want and have been on about for the last month and a half.  With our desire to make Christmas as special and magical a time as possible for children and loved ones some really do get a little spend happy it’s easy to get swept up in the Christmas buying frenzy that seems to happen and sometimes we might swipe the plastic a little too much it’s easily done as by not physically handling cash it can make you a little less aware of what you are spending resulting in quite a few cases in accounts being overdrawn as we venture into the cold January months.  I wrote a post in November titled ‘Save this Christmas and Enjoy a Happy New Year’ which I hope some of you managed to read and this gave some great tips on how you could save money for this Christmas as well as begin working on saving money for the next.

The company that carried out the survey that caught my attention was none other than My Voucher Codes which I frequently use and you can see the full survey ‘here‘.  The great thing about this particular company is that savings are not merely restricted to Christmas time although saving money at this expensive time of year is of course great.  These guys like many other voucher services allow you to save money on a whole array of products /  services from holidays, dining out, shopping for clothes, jewellery, beauty products, the list goes on.  I will be using vouchers to help save me money over the year and might even buy a few Christmas gifts on the way to reduce the load for next Christmas.  I’m quite excited to see they link to the offers on the buyagift page where I plan on making the most of discounts and go on a few of the experiences yet again.  The gift and occasion page is one to keep an eye on for those needing gifts over the year or want to get their Christmas shopping for the coming year finished early.  At the moment many of the stores they list are offering up to 50% off so if you want to grab some bargains why not go take a look.

UK Premier of Universal Pictures Sing

My girls love going to the cinema.  It makes for a lovely day out and depending on which one we go to we can also add in a few more activities and make a day of it.  Any excuse to get out of the house and the children love this opportunity to be able to go out and have fun.

Ready Brek and Universal invited me to the to the UK premier of Universal Pictures Sing recently.  Along I went with my girls and a friend who were almost as excited as I was to see the movie.

Ready Brek is one of the partners of this great new movie which will be enjoyed by all and will be be launching exclusive Sing Ready Brek breakfast boxes in January.  We arrived at the cinema in London’s West End – Piccadilly and were serenaded by a choir whilst we waited in line to go in.  Inside were activities such as a giant snow globe that you could have a quick play in and have a picture or two taken, face & hand painting, biscuit decorating and more.

sing1

The story is set around a koala trying to save his beloved theatre from closure by staging a singing competition.  There are lots of great songs and this is one of those movies that will be appreciated by both children and adults.  We loved the movie and would recommend going to see it when it hits the big screens in January.  It’s great for anyone that loves music and you might even find yourself singing along.  There are a few ups and downs through the course of the movie but fortunately there is a happy ending, much to my relief.  Want to find out a bit more?

Recently I wrote about a fabulous show that I had been to called The Wedding Reception run by Interactive Theatre International.   These guys also have another interactive theatre show which is very popular ‘Faulty Towers the Dining Experience’.  I will admit when I first heard about this I was extremely excited about going to see the show as I had watched Fawlty Towers religiously as a child and remembered it was pretty hilarious at the time.  If like me you remember watching and loving the show then this is the show for you.  For anyone that isn’t aware of the show then it’s about an extremely rude hotel owner, his super bossy wife and their Spanish waiter Manuel whose grasp of the English language is very poor and so he is forever misunderstanding what is asked of him leading to hilarious consequences.

Diners are greeted in the drinks room by Basil and his wife Sibel.  Manuel appears to help the guests with whatever Basil commands of him (or at least his translation).  Putting away guests glasses is of course misunderstood by Manuel who then proceeds to go around collecting eye glasses off amused guests.

After a few more hilarious  misunderstandings guests are ushered out of the room along with Miguel to their designated tables to be seated for their 70s style 3 course meal

The dining room is nice and spacious and were not not packed onto the tables too tightly.  You could see Manuel had been setting the tables, oh dear, anyone else need a knife too?

faulty2Sibel goes from table to table checking diners food preferences (vegetarian or normal?) and having a little chat and gossip with the guests too.  Basil attempts to ask Manuel to serve the bread rolls, be warned you will be expected to catch this part of your meal!

The tomato soup starter (you don’t have to catch this thankfully) was full of flavour, as with their other show the food is a prop although the food here was a little better than at the other hotel and the dessert here was fantastic (it had to have it’s own mention it was that good.).

May I suggest you check your soup before eating it!

Whilst we ate the actors walked, ran etc. around the room continuing their comical performances, there was a scene with a rat, Basil was put in his plaice (not a typo check the photo) by Sibel and more.  Each of the actors did a wonderful job of breathing life back into the characters and introducing new generations to the show too.  The age range of diners was varied, some were friends on a day out, other families, some with young ish children others with older children.  There is some bad language but not it’s not continuous throughout the show so you can get away with taking slightly older children or mini ones that wouldn’t pick up on it.

faulty5When Sibel goes around the tables to find food preferences she also asks diners if they are celebrating any special occasions.  At the end of the show those celebrating events are mentioned which was a nice touch.  On my table was a sweet young lady called Vicky who was celebrating her 18th Birthday, of course she got a mention and she kindly posed for a photo with Sibel for me.

faulty6I don’t want to give too much away but for fans of the show and those wanting to experience something a bit different this is a wonderful choice.  It’s a very popular dhow with hundreds of thousands having already seen it and even people I know have been planning on seeing this (I didn’t know until I mentioned I was going).  The show is into its fourth year in London’s West End and it holds TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for its 6 shows a week residency at Amba Hotel Charing Cross (literally next to the station).

This is  a must see.
