Baylis & Harding Linen Rose and Cotton Range

Recently I wrote a post about Baylis & Harding’s Limited Edition Pink Prosecco and Cassis Range.  This range was truly fantastic. I really did love the aroma and it was one that was popular with many of you too.  With that in mind I decided to make sure I featured another product that I discovered that I know you will also love this time from their Linen Rose and Cotton Range.  This range features a lovely mix of products many of which make fantastic gifts although you might decide once you have bought something from this range that you want to keep if for yourself.

The range is nice and varied to cover many tastes and budgets including diffusers, candles, different toiletry sets all of that are beautifully packaged.  I loved the look of the Linen Rose and Cotton Tin which features some lovely large bottles which anyone would be over the moon with once they smell the fabulous fragrance.  This is perfect for a pampering session and includes a 300ml Body Cleanser, 300ml Bath & Shower Crème, 125ml Bath & Shower Gel and 125ml Body Balm.  With Mother’s Day coming up this would make a great gift for mum to thank her for all her hard work this year as let’s face it mums do sooooo much and we can never really say thank you enough.  We must remember mum’s also need a little relaxation and pampering time for themselves and this is perfect for that.  The toiletries come in a pretty tin which will of course come in very useful for mum as it could be used to help store other toiletries when these all empty and would also look great in the kitchen to home jars of herbs and spices and if mum is green fingered she might even like to plant some herbs for the window sill or flowers.  A pretty heart design is displayed on the tin as well as onthe items nestled inside making this the ideal gift for one that you love.

Now you know me if I can find this on offer for you I will so you will be pleased to know that although the RRP is £30 but, mummy here has gone and found it for the bargain price of (quick sit down!!!!!!!)

£9.99 at Argos.

OMG didn’t I do a great job there.  You will find it at Asda for £15 and Tesco also has it for £15 until the 26th March.

Another of the the products featured in that range that caught my eye was their;

Linen Rose and Cotton Large Wick Candle

How pretty is that in its silver coloured glass jar.  This candle has the same great delicate fragrance as the products in the tin and will help keep a room smelling gorgeous and it also looks great as a centre piece on a table or mantelpiece or even for those like my husband that enjoy taking a bath by candlelight  (you might want to get two or three in that case).  Almost everyone loves candles, there are very few that don’t now days an this is a great one to be given as a gift.  The wax is a baby pink colour and the 180g candle has a total burn time of up to 25 hours.  This has a RRP of £15.00 and can be found at OCADO £7.50 another bargain!!!!

There are many more in this range but I also wanted to include a product from the Pink Prosecco and Cassis range for a two reasons, one that it smells so amazingly fabulous that you should all be aware of it (okay so I’m stating the obvious there) the second reason, well I’m not going to tell you just yet you will need to read on to find out!!!! – Trust me you want too.

Pink Prosecco and Cassis  Diffuser Set

Not only does this look pretty it gives off a lovely aroma to have any room smelling wonderful.  As with the other products from this range the packaging features the pretty rose gold.  The 200ml diffuser will last for up to 10 weeks.  The RRP is £15.00 but this can be found at Asda for £10.00.  Keep reading, you can win one of these below! (reason two).

What did you think of these super products from Baylis & Harding?

I have always been a fan of the various ranges that have been available and love discovering new ones.  For this reason I want to help one lucky reader discover two of the products / fragrances featured in this post.

Whose interested?

The prize is a lovely one that I would enter for too if I could but that wouldn’t be very fair.  One lucky reader will win a Linen Rose Cotton Large Wick Candle AND a Pink Prosecco and Cassis  Diffuser Set thanks to the lovely guys at Baylis & Harding.

Pure Potions, Natural Products for Dry Skin and Skin Conditions

For those that may not be aware, many many many moons ago (not quite at the time of the dinosaurs although it feels like that sometimes) I studied medicine, Phytotherapy to be precise.  I got my degree and became a fully fledged medical herbalist.  As you can imagine with the NHS available many people were unfortunately not prepared to pay for their medicine at the time and I struggled to get my business established.  Over the years I have done other things increasing my knowledge and experience in various areas and also in the background using natural medicine on family and friends.  For this reason when I come across a company that makes lovely natural products using medicinal plants I must admit I get very excited.  Orthodox medicine originates from natural medicine.  Many Orthodox medicines you take originate from nature.  These are generally created by using an active constituent from a plant and synthesising it.  In natural medicine we work differently looking at a more holistic method and not synthesising active chemicals but using them directly from the plant.  Combining a mixture of plants that work in synergy can give great results and so on discovering a company called Pure Potions were looking for bloggers to review their products I knew I was perfect for the job.  How many bloggers are actually qualified medical herbalists?

Of course I was overwhelmed with excitement when my package arrived.

The packaging is simple with minimal waste and the box can be reused or recycled.  Pure Potions produce natural creams, ointments and oils.  Their products are designed for those that suffer from dry skin and they use the finest ingredients many of which are organic and locally sourced.  Their products are made in the UK, fragrance free, paraben free and are not tested on animals.  The company was founded by a mother who wanted a safe, effective natural alternative to steroids for her daughter’s dry skin.  This award winning company has been creating fabulous products for 10 years and I really do hope they continue to do so for many more.  Companies such as Boots, Waitrose, QVC, Holland & Barrett have already seen the potential in these products and now stock the range.

I was lucky enough to be sent some of their products for review.

A Little Information on Some of the Herbs Used in These Products;

Chamomile

This lovely gentle herb is used often in skin preparations for it’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and healing properties.  A clinical trial of humans demonstrated it to be 60% as active as 0.25% hydrocortisone when applied to the skin.  This lovely herb is extremely well suited to those with sensitive skin that is prone to inflammation.

Nettle

Yes this is the plant that stings you when you touch it but it also has when used correctly fabulous benefits for the skin.  This herb has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, astringent and antioxidant properties and is well suited for skin conditions such as eczema, acne, burns, bites.  This is often used by people like myself for treating patients both internally and externally to attain even better results.

Chickweed

This herb also has anti-inflammatory and healing properties.  It is often used for itchy skin and works wonders on a whole range of skin conditions from psoriasis, eczema, acne, burns and rashes.

Calendula

Commonly known as marigold and a plant that many of you will have seen this has a range of uses one of which is to treat skin conditions.  Calendula has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which make it perfect for topical application.  Calendula has been shown to help reduce dermatitis following skin irradiation for breast cancer indicating how effective this herb is.

Combined these make a powerful and useful natural way to help treat numerous skin conditions.

Now for the Products

Skin Salvation Daily Moisturising Cream (Vegan)

The moisturising day cream is packed full of herbs, vitamins and essential fatty acids that help to keep the skin hydrated and nourished.  Shea butter gives this cream its vegan friendly base.  This is a great base as it has nourishing and healing properties before anything else has even been added and this on it’s own can be used to help conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, sunburn, itching, bites and more.  With the addition of chamomile, nettle, chickweed and calendula herbal tinctures this really does combine well to give an effective yet gentle product.  The cream has a natural aroma from the ingredients it is comprised of, no added nasties here to adjust the smell as these in many cases could cause skin irritation.  The cream is easy to apply as the tube has a pump making control of the amount of product that comes out easy and preventing to much product being provided for each use that way you don’t waste it.  The cream is rich and thick and is absorbed well into the skin leaving it feeling soft and hydrated and not at all greasy which I loved.  This is great for anyone that suffers from acne and any inflammatory condition on the face and body thanks to it’s anti-inflammatory and healing effect on the skin.  Within a few short days you show see an improvement in the skins appearance.

Skin Salvation Intensive Hand Cream (vegan)

As my lifestyle is extremely busy I find I can be running around and doing things non stop until I go to bed so I find that my fluid intake isn’t always sufficient and this sometimes shows on my hands.  The skin can sometimes crack and of course this can be pretty sore.  This hand cream from Pure Potions is the perfect solution combining shea butter, olive oil, sunflower seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, calendula and chamomile.  This again comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser and combines a mix of natural ingredients that again host a range of properties from anti-inflammatory, healing, antibacterial, antiseptic, astringent and antioxidant and more to help reduce pain, redness, itching, irritation etc. from a range of skin conditions.  Like the daily moisture cream this is fragranced by it’s ingredients not any extra additions and absorbs well into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.  It is soothing to the skin and fast acting to help improve the condition of the skin quickly.

Skin Salvation Intensive Lip balm (vegetarian)

Again a low fluid intake can also mean that my lips become dry, cracked and sore.  The intensive lip balm was perfect for this helping make my lips feel soft, nourished and looking so much better.  The addition of the beeswax means it isn’t for vegans but it doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a superb lip balm.  Aside from the beeswax this also contains, olive oil, safflower seed oil, hemp seed oil, chamomile, nettle, chickweed and calendula extracts.  This is a lovely natural lip balm and one that works very well indeed and is suitable for everyone whether you have sensitive skin, are allergy prone and it can also be used on babies and children and everyone else too.  It is great that this can also be used on dry skin under the eyes, around the nose too whether it is brought on by cold windy weather, central heating or air conditioning.

I really liked the products that were sent over for trial and would recommend them to any that suffer from skin conditions.  The majority of people will find that these products work extremely well and will be more than satisfied with the results.

Do you make a habit of using more natural based products?

New Laws Relating to Using Your Phone When Driving

I must say that I am really pleased by the new laws that have been introduced as of the 1st of March this year in relation to using phones whilst driving.  So many times I have been driving and see others with a hand held device against their ear clearly completely distracted and risking the safety of all those around them.  It’s a selfish habit that many see to have fallen into and one that should never have been allowed in the first place.  With the roads getting more and more congested the odds of being in a car accident that isn’t your fault are increasing.  Just a few weeks back I witnessed an accident that occurred from careless driving which I mentioned in my blog post What To Do If You Are In An Accident.  Combining the careless driving with an obvious distraction = dangerous driver.  It’s kind of a no brainer really and it’s a shame that stricter laws were not imposed a while back.

When Can You Use Your Phone in the Car?

The only time you are allowed to use your phone in the car is when you need to dial 999 or 112 and it is not safe to stop or if you are parked and the engine is off otherwise it’s a no go.  This also includes texting, looking at messages, updating your social media account, following a map – basically touching the phone is out.

If you want to use your phone as a sat nav it must be is mounted in a hands-free holder.

Simple enough so why do I see people on their phones on a daily basis.  In the past the punishment didn’t really fit the crime, let’s face it driving whilst using a phone can distract you enough to kill someone it isn’t rocket science.

It is also illegal to use a hand held phone when supervising a learner driver.

In addition police can stop drivers that appear distracted which includes where you may be using a radio or sat nav so please be careful and set the sat nav before you leave!

What Will Happen If You Are Caught Using Your Phone Whilst Driving?

New drivers will lose their licence if they are caught during the first two years they have their licence.  Theory and practical driving tests will need to be retaken.

For those with a full licence the fine is now £200 and 6 points on your licence.

There is also a chance that you may go to court, be banned from driving or get a £1000 fine.

Project Mc2 H20 Nail Science Lab

My girls are pretty girly.  They love make up, having their nails painted, dressing up and taking their little handbags with them when they go out.  At school they have a great science teacher who has helped encourage them to develop a love for science themselves.  We were really pleased to hear that Project MC2 are supporting British Science week.(10th to the 19th of March).  The annual celebration of all things S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.

Project MC2 are passionate about encouraging more young people especially girls into these areas demonstrating that they can be fun and are not just for boys.  Their aim is to prove that being smart is cool as those that watch the popular Netflix show Project MC2 will be aware.  The Project MC2 super smart and chic heroines are back to take on more secret missions for top secret organisation NOV8 using their love of science and sky skills to help them complete their missions.  Two new seasons of the show were launched in 2016 with new products and two new characters.  This Spring will see the girls return to our screens with many new exciting S.T.E.A.M. focused products including the Project Mc2 H20 Nail Science Lab.

As seen in the Netflix original show Adrienne Attoms’ next mission is to use her cosmetic chemistry skills to formulate the perfect look for saving the world.  With the Mc2 H20 Nail Science Lab children can now perform this same cool S.T.E.A.M. experiment at home using just household ingredients.  By using a scientific process called hydrographic printing children can create amazing and unique marble designs!  It is very easy to use and can be applied directly to children’s nails or to the provided press-on nails with any combination of polishes that you own.

What is hydrographic printing?  A quick Science Lesson

This is also known as immersive printing and is in this instance when the nail varnish is added to the water and an object is placed on top – finger nails onto where the pattern from the floating nail varnish will transfer.  As the nail varnish is not as dense as the water it floats.  What is density – the number of molecules in an area, so the denser an object is ie. the more molecules the less likely it is to float.  Nail varnish has less molecules when applied in small amounts to water so this forms a thin layer on the water surface.  When we added the nail varnish in a large amount it would form a ball and sink as it is denser than the water (has more molecules).  This is why the instructions say to add one drop at a time.

Within the set you will find a multi-LED light up station with built-in nail dryer, three stands with holders for your nail polish, three discs with blank nails to design, adhesive stickers, four science pipettes, one design stick, and one clear beaker. Batteries and nail polishes are not included.  Detailed instructions are provided.

You will need 3 AA batteries.

Here is how we got on:

As you can see we had great fun doing this.  Having done this for the first time in the video we have learnt from this as mummy used quick drying nail varnish as that was what she had.  Next time we plan to use normal nail varnish and see the difference.

As you will see from the video we changed the way the masking tape was applied to the fingers as this was far easier and meant the tape stuck better and cover more of the skin.

This seemed to work pretty well and we didn’t have to remove much excess nail varnish from around the nails.

I was a little apprehensive at first about using the kit but only because I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to use and was a bit worried about messing it up.  Thankfully the product was so simple to use I didn’t get a chance to make a mess of it which was a good thing as that would have been embarrassing, phew!

The results were good and we look forward to experimenting with this again.  We now want to see if Vaseline works well around the nails to prevent the nail varnish sticking.  What do you think will it work?

This kit is for ages 8+ and makes a great gift to help encourage children to have fun with science.

Fancy winning one of these great Project Mc2 H20 Nail Science Labs?

Silly question but I thought I would ask.

Fairytale Shoes Fit For a Modern Day Princess

Many of my most recent fashion posts have featured boots.  Of course that is due to the awful weather we have been having and my need to stay dry and keep my toes feeling toasty but today I will break with recent tradition and feature some elegant shoes that are perfect for going out.  Now the weather has been a little kinder to us recently and some of us have been donning our going out clothes finished with some dazzling shoes and a gorgeous handbag.  Shoes can make or break an outfit and it is important to pair the correct shoes with our clothing choices.  My aim is always to combine style and sophistication when creating an outfit and it’s amazing how the right jeans for example can be spiced up with some ‘wow look at me shoes’ to make one look simply fabulous .  I always go for sleek, feminine styles personally and this is reflected in my outfit and shoe choices.

I have always loved the Wizard of Oz, why might you ask would I even consider mentioning this in a post about shoes, have I really lost the plot?  Well of course all the best people have (slight rewording from Alice in Wonderland there, my goodness lots of fairy tale story references today what’s happened).  Anyway back to the shoes.  You will all recall Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the book / movie and that was exactly what I thought of when I saw these stunning women’s shoes on the JD Williams site.

Don’t they look magical!!!

Now I must say when I first saw these I was overly excited, I mean who wouldn’t be, they look gorgeous and really glamorous.  These court shoes work with a large range of dresses, trousers and jeans to add a wonderful sparkle.  Not ones to lend to friends as you many never get them back these sure are a wardrobe stable and are guaranteed to never go out of fashion and can make any outfit look eye catching.  Totally drool worthy and the heels are the perfect height and a bargain at £30.

Now when you are on a site looking at shoes it’s not easy to stop at the one pair.  I’m not sure if it is because I saw Into the Woods recently with my girls but these precious pewter peep toe shoes caught my eye.  I’m sure many a fairytale Princess would own shoes like this and so can we for just £18 (I really hope you were sitting down when you read that).  The price is shockingly reasonable so I would suggest if you love these as much as me get over to the site fast because they are bound to sell out quickly.  They look simply fabulous whether worn in the day or evening and glow with feminine sophistication.  Again the heel is a good size so you are less likely to loose your shoe if you find Prince Charming isn’t so …. well charming and you need to make a sneaky quick exit.  These feel really soft to the touch which is perfect for me being a very tactile person.

Both styles of shoe can be worn with a range of clothing including blue skinny jeans, the gorgeous cold shoulder day dress pictured below, black slim leg jeans and also various types of evening wear such as the featured Carolina dress which is perfectly coloured to suit both pairs of shoes.  All the outfits featured below are from the JD Williams site and I do regret not having looked there sooner.  They have a great range of clothing and footwear and also a surprisingly good price range too so they have something to suit every pocket.

Have you discovered / shopped from JD Williams yet?

Beetroot, Rocket, Avocado and Feta Salad

I love salad.  Salad really doesn’t need to be bland or boring and I hope my recipe for Beetroot, Rocket, Avocado and Feta Salad helps to demonstrate this.  First of all I would like to include a little of the nutritional benefits of one of the ingredients.  Before I do, for those that don’t eat cheese you can simply omit it or exchange it for something else the choice as always with any homemade meal is yours.

Beetroot

This has become one of the newest super foods due to its ability to help boost stamina, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation and so much more.  Beetroot contains vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.  This great root can help in phase 2 detoxification where broken down toxins are bound to other molecules so they can be removed from the body.  They are often used in natural medicine to detoxify the liver and blood.  The juice from beetroot can help improve oxygenation to the brain, slowing the progression of dementia in older people.  Betaine a compound found in beetroot increases the production of serotonin which is the body’s natural mood boosting hormone (a happy hormone) so make sure you eat it regularly as it will keep you feeling happy naturally (betaine is found in some treatments for depression).

Beetroot is fibre rich and contains strong phytonutrients which give it its rich colour and have been shown to reduce multi-organ tumour formations in animals.  Beetroot  is also being is also being studied for use in treating human pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancers let’s hope they make progress with the research into that.  In the mean time I’m trying to eat more of this great root vegetable as it’s not just really good for you it’s tasty too and great in a range of salads.

Ingredients

300g cooked beetroot

1 medium spring onion

75g feta

75g Queen olives

50g baby leaf rocket salad

1 avocado

For the dressing

olive oil

balsamic vinegar

Method

Wash the leaves and drain off excess water.

Chop the beetroot into bite sized pieces.

Slice the spring onion.

Cut the avocado and feta into bite sized pieces.

Throw all of these into a bowl, add in the olives and drizzle over some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to taste.  I used approximately 2tbs of olive oil and around the same amount of vinegar but I would suggest with the vinegar add less, taste and add more if required.

Mix well then serve.

Enjoy!

Do you like beetroot?  Will you be trying it now you know how great it is for you?

Zoomer Zupps Tiny Pups: Diva

We are a family of animal lovers.  We love toy animals as well as live ones.  My children  would love to have a puppy but we simply don’t have the space or time to look after one.  When given the chance to review Zoomer Zupps Tiny Pups Diva of course we were game.  A puppy you don’t need to walk daily etc. is a far better alternative for us.  Wow these really are tiny pups we didn’t realise this pup would be quite so little although the name of the product does give it away, duh!  Anyway the day came when our pup Diva arrived and of course the girls and mini man were super excited so naturally I was extremely thankful that there were batteries included in the box.  Don’t you just hate it when batteries are not included and you need to do the mad scrabble around the house to find enough whist the little ones are asking over and over like a broken record “have you found them yet?”  This tiny pup is super cute and is brightly coloured too and she does make adorable little sounds.

What are Zoomer Zupps Tiny Pups?

Well they are pretty much what their name describes, tiny pups.

These tiny pups have little rollers under their feet so they can be pushed around.

The pups respond to touch via special sensors.  Pet their head and they bark and pant happily, pet and hold their head and the will bark “I Love You”.

Press their nose once or twice in a row and they will make cute sounds.  Press and hold the nose and they make a kissing sound.

The pups eyes light up as she interacts.

Each pup features a unique secret trick.  To find out what this is pet the head and then press the nose twice.

They play a fun Zupp game called the bark back game.  Pet the head and press the nose at the same time to play.  They bark and flash their eyes in a specific pattern.  Pet the head to repeat the pattern.  Pet the head quickly for a bark and pet and hold the nose for a howl.  Get three in a row and you win!

The legs are adjustable so you can make them stand, sit or lie down.

If you have a few pups you can watch them interact with each other.

There are six to collect and each pup comes with a collector card, instruction book and have batteries already installed.

These are for children aged 4 to 8 years old.

See Diva in Action:

What Did We Think?

The kids loved Diva, they thought she was super cute and loved the sweet little sounds that she made and also when she said “I Love You”.  Zoomer Zupps are easy to play with and Diva’s back legs move so you can position her to do tricks such as sit, lie down as well as stand.

The pups are small enough to make them easily transportable.  The more you play with them the happier they are and the kids found this adorable little pup irresistible.  Mr Squishy liked Diva so much he wanted her.  The girls were not impressed when he grabbed her and said “is miiiii” (is mine).

Zoomer Pups are available to buy from retailers such as Toys R Us, The Entertainer and Smyths and have a RRP of £14.99.

Have you heard of Zoomer Zupps Tiny Pups before?  Would you get one as a gift for a child you know?

Necklace Lanyards for Ladies

Many of you use Lanyards for work whether you work in a school, office etc.  Lanyards are normally extremely boring looking accessories.  They are often pretty chunky with a thick strap and a great big clip that screams OMG look at this monstrosity hanging around my neck.

Don’t they look awful?

Given the option I always go for things that are dainty and delicate looking rather than big, chunky and pretty boring!  I understand that they serve a useful purpose but why can’t they look nicer?  Well actually they can.  No longer do I need to be bunched with the masses wearing these sorts of lanyards when I go to a press event.  Why is that?  No, I haven’t tattooed my blog name on my forehead and I don’t write it in tanning cream across my face a few hours before either, that would just be silly.

I have my own super stylish, dainty and pretty lanyard that is sure to be a winner with many fashionistas around the world.

My Lanyards come from a company called maisie-jane.com who specialise in making them look simply fabulous so that they look like a cross between a necklace and lanyard with their unique and varied designs.  These have three key features adding to their usability:

A removable hook, so you can use it with your work pass or on your name badge if attending a conference / event.

Quick release fastening, secured by magnets so if used for your work pass, it will be compliant with most HSE guidelines.

Zip assist, use the hook provided for the work pass on your dress zip!  That’s right this necklace can even help you zip / un-zip your dress.  Isn’t that wonderful, I think many will get one just for that!  It beats having to waiting a forever for hubby to help or for friends to arrive to zip you in and then the fun and games of getting out again after.

Want to see what they look like?

Don’t these look much better?

I am sure you will agree that they do and there are many different options available to choose from which is great.  There are single charm and multiple charm necklaces, some with a little sparkle.  Maisie-Jane follow the latest trends to bring new pieces to their growing collection including pieces featuring pineapples hearts, apples a butterfly, handbags and even shoes.

These retail at just £12.50 which is nothing for something you can wear daily to work and it’s much nicer than the ordinary Lanyards so it’s worth getting a few different ones so you can swap them around during the week.  For anyone that would like to be the envy of all their work colleagues I have some fabulous news.  One lucky reader has the chance to win one of these pretty Lanyards.

I’m not finished with Easter Eggs just yet.  Even after discovering and buying some that were on offer from Tesco for some of the children I know I have now changed the focus to other types of egg.  There are so many Easter eggs available and some are truly works or art.  I thought I would take a little look around the internet and share with you some of my favourites.  In some cases it might be best not to look at their prices lol as some do come with a hefty price tag.  So what did I discover on my travels?  These were some of my favourites:

Choccywoccydoodah

The Hare Family Eggs – Series of 3 Eggs

The Mr & Mrs and Sailor Boy eggs are comprised of 100kg of chocolate each.  Now that is serious chocolate heaven.  I have no idea of the price but it’s not going this be on offer that’s for sure.  The price is available on request.  Their dragon eggs last year were being sold for £25,000 if that gives you an idea of the sort of prices these guys can command for a monster sized egg.

Godiva

Giant Easter Atelier Egg

This luxury chocolate egg is handmade in Brussels by executive chef chocolatier’s Jean Apostolou and Ilse Wilmots and looks not only enormous but also delicious.  It weighs 13kg and features an array of beautiful white chocolate butterflies that are hand painted.  These are available from Harrods and Selfridges.  It costs a mere £1000 and I’m sure it is worth every penny.

Bettys

Imperial Easter Egg

The egg is named after the Imperial Suite at their Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate and is a real showpiece in craftsmanship.  It is decorated by hand with beautiful spring flowers.  Don’t let the small photo fool you this egg contains over 5.4 kilos of high quality milk or dark chocolate.  This egg is made-to-order and delivered personally, so you will need to contact them to place an order.  This pretty egg is available for £250.  There are some lovely smaller and cheaper options also available like this:

Trio of Spring Flower Eggs

These cute eggs are made with the finest Swiss chocolate and presented in a pastel box. Created to complement one another perfectly, the trio contains one milk chocolate egg, hand-stippled with dark chocolate; one dark chocolate and one eau de nil white chocolate egg with a silver lustre. Each is decorated with Royal iced spring flowers, carefully piped by hand.  260g of chocolate for £27.50 isn’t too bad when you are going for quality and great presentation.

Lick The Spoon

Paisley Easter Egg – Monterery

I love the colours and simple design of this egg that really make it stand out.   It would be almost a shame to break it up and eat although I’m guessing I would manage if I got one.  These celebrate 50 years since the famous ‘summer of love’ and the festivals held at the time.  Drawing on Paisley design influences their beautiful handmade egg is a thick chocolate shell covered in a gossamer thin pastel layer. The surface is hand decorated with an intricate gold Paisley design.  This egg comes presented in a blue keyhole box with a box of 12 Spring collection chocolates.  You will get 800g of chocolate for just £85!

Artisan du Chocolat

Sculpture Egg

Not your average Easter egg this is more like a piece of art and can be found in Harvey Nicols.  This is made from intense 70% Colombian dark chocolate and expertly finished in gold shimmer with an 18kt gold leaf adorning the central egg, what a stunning egg to grace any table or fireplace (don’t turn that on of course) until it is time to devour it.  There are mini eggs also included and this contains a total of 430g of chocolate which is priced at £44.95.

What did you think of the eggs I featured?

Germ Scientists Approve 5 Second Food Rule!

Have you heard of the 5 second rule? I think most of us have nowadays and not only that, most have also used it especially on sweets and chocolate.  I mean really that would otherwise be a total waste right?  For those unaware the 5 second rule literally means that food dropped on the floor if picked up straight away (within 5 seconds) is normally safe to eat.

(Pictured above Horseradish, Cheddar and Smoked Salmon Toasted Sandwich)

I’ve generally worked with this of course depending on what and where food is dropped.  Anything dropped in the streets is a no go but in the home especially when I have just cleaned it is generally okay.  It also depends on the food dropped.  Spilt soup or melted chocolate will not be licked off the floor but cleaned and then the floor sprayed with dettol and given a wipe.  We don’t wear shoes in the house which helps keep it that much cleaner thankfully.  My thoughts have always been that a few germs won’t kill you and if anything they will help improve the ability of our immune system.

Today the 5 second rule was given the all clear by scientists.  This is thanks to germ expert Anthony Hilton from Aston University.  Although it can never been entirely risk free as it depends on the floor in many cases and an obviously filthy floor should never been eaten off – basic common sense.  Going with common sense you will of course also check the item you have dropped prior to eating it to make sure there are no obvious signs of dirt.  In many cases it is safe to eat a dropped sweet from a clean floor although it has also been shown that germ transfer can occur within less than 5 seconds.  As a rule I would say only do this in your own home when you know you have cleaned the floor very recently (we only have wooden floors and stone tiled floors which are far easier to clean.).  Do not eat off wet floors as this can speed up germ transfer, this rule also applies to moist foods.  If you have pets it all goes out of the window, don’t eat anything off the floor as they walk inside and outside spreading a large range of bacteria as they go that you really don’t want to welcome any of those into your body to cause havoc.

What do you think?

Have you ever used the 5 second rule?
